We need this man back... Mr Ambrose. He knew how to shoot from distance.
Something the current line up is sadly lacking...

We were never going to see the best of GM this season given the seriousness of his injury and the time required to having to mentally and physically attune to this division and given he hasn't been a starter his opportunity to do that has been limited

Next season is the fair time to judge GM's ability to step up

When it comes to it know one knows if Murray is PL standard. I'm sure he's not match fit and his confidence level can't be high.

Lets get this season over and next season (hopefully still a PL club!), Murray will be fully fit and although he will be 31 in September this will not be that important as his game isn't based on speed of feet, more using what's between the ears.

I'm certainly willing to back him 100%.

His contact ends the summer of 2016.

Where he fits in depends on who Palace keep and sign next season. Don't forget Chamakh's contract ends Summer 2014 (with an option of another year) and Jerome is on loan.

Thommo, he had 20 minutes at the end of a match whilst he's still not 100% and we weren't providing any real service to him except a pumped up the middle ball every now and again. Do you really think that if Murray had got the kind of service he had last season and was 100% fit he wouldn't be scoring given that we know his game is not based on pace and given that we all know he has the ability to find the goal?

I think this is a fail thread based on a real lack of understanding of the injury he had and of football in general. On top of that why make a 'ner ner' thread on a palace hero when we've just won our third game in a row? Silly boy.

So this is your reasoned argument for him to play ? I do hope you don't become involved in politics and have to argue a community's problem through parliament.

So I ask you again where and how does he fit into your team ? Just in case you don't answer from what you have written I feel you think he should be our number 9 next season and start in every game if fit ? If not then please explain how he fits.. Come on wise boy lets have a grown up debate without your screaming kicking and crying, it's good to talk.

He fits in exactly the role he was brought on yesterday. The main striker has worked hard but there's 20 minutes to go and we need a goal and a bit of urgency is needed and we look to Murray.

Yes, Murray isn't the quickest, but that's not important. When we're playing like we were yesterday with lots of possession in the final third and crosses coming in, there is no-one else in the squad I'd want there over Glenn. Speed is pretty irrelevant. Movement, instinct and finishing is important and he has those attributes in abundance.

He certainly is the best finisher in our squad. Had we not scored so early after he came on and therefore gone into sit back mode we'd have got supply into him and seen that.

Everyone knows we need a new main striker, but if there's 25 minutes to go and we've been banging on the door and it's not quite worked, who would you (realistically considering our budget) rather turn to than Glenn?

I have taken a lot of stick on here in the past especially from the pro Murray supporters for suggesting Glenn is just not up to this level.

So without being ultra stubborn do you still feel the same about him ?

This isn't a ' I told you so ' thread but the sarcy comments, abuse and general superiority in the tone of your definite comments regarding the 30 goal saviour haven't really been justified in reality wouldn't you agree ?y

I want any player who wears the shirt to do well and they will always get my full support as long as they give 100% and FFS does and has been a legend for us with circumstances working for him ( great service from 2 great wide men in a lower level playing against lesser quality) and no doubt Glenn has attributes that are valuable, but really for us in the EPL.

I get the feeling that 99.2% of us agree that we need a front man signed this summer and as I know Glenn doesn't cover at left back or right midfield or keeper or even a wide forward so let me ask you this lets say we did sign this new front man and for argument sake he is called 'thommo' who would you have as thommo's back up ? Jerome ? Chamakh ? Or Glenn ? Bear in mind we have punch, bolasie, gayle as wide/ general front cover ie can play up top too if needed.

I am just trying to put logic to my argument bad stand back and look at the bigger picture and would respect the same back in any answers especially from the hard core Pro Murray brigade.

So if you do see a place for Glenn how would he fit into your team ( bear in mind we now have thommo and others as mentioned.

i am a murray fan, and saw that when he first came he got a bit of stick. I knew if given the service, he'd score. And so he did. I still think that now.
However, i dont think he fits in with our style of play now. Unless this is only stage one of how TP wants us to play, and he implements something next season to accommodate glenn. I cant see it tho.
When he comes on now (usually for jerome), he cant do what jerome does. He's never been the quickest, and looks laboured compared to cameron.
If we could merge the two players into one, we'd have a hell of a player.
I think muzza can still score at this level, again, if given the service. If the wide men can deliver balls into him in and around the box, there's goals in him. Im not saying 30 goals, but he's our best finisher, id say, and would significantly add to our goal tally.
But sadly, i think he could be surplus to requirements, as Pulis' tactics dont suit him.

I love Murray to bits but I reckon Chamakh is the better finisher and Gayle could give him a run for his money.

A harsh post, you really ought to think about your statements above. Look at the facts.
Murray has been out injured for 8-9 months, not playing regular football. Any player having been out that long cannot get up to speed without playing regularly.
AND because the team has been doing well, Murray cannot be guaranteed a starting place, over fitter players.
So it is an unfair or uneducated statement to suggest he is not up to it.
I hope he is with us next year and proves his doubters, you, wrong.

and it's goodnight from me.......

I think once he's fit then he should be given an opportunity from the beginning of next season yes. I think you writing him off as not being anywhere near good enough to play in the premiership is ridiculous when you've not seen him play enough in the premiership to know one way or another. Trying to claim vindication on some of the negative opinions you've spurted about Murray in the past based on him scoring once in what's only about 5 sub (or subbed) appearances is naive and crass at best and belligerent at worst.

Out of interest, prior to the start of our promotion winning campaign were you one of the people calling Murray crap and demanding a 30 goal a season striker? I might not eloquent in the way I voice my opinion (if it helps I don't think you are either) but I sure as hell aren't prepared to write off the player who got us to the premiership before we get to see him play fully fit either.

There were some on here who were yearning for the return of Murray from his injury and I kept saying that we couldn't just expect him to 'Hit the ground' running because NOT only was he returning after a long time out,he would be playing in the Premier League for the first time.I believe like other players, the 'Jury is out' regarding whether he can 'Cut' it at this level.Personally I would keep him and give him a chance to prove himself at this level.

Firstly, good answer and fair point and if he does stay this is the only role I can see him playing too, in response to your question personally I would prefer Gayle as I feel pace is paramount in this division and he can finish and with 20 odd mins to go needing a goal the probability is balls will be sent forward over the top and we need legs for that aka villa away.

That's just my opinion don't worry I am not picking the team

Who are you suggesting we buy that's a premier league proven striker then Thommo? Rhodes? Oh wait he's not proven in the premier league. So is it crouch that you want then? Perhaps we should buy 35 year old grant holt? Maybe you want a big marquee signing? £30m for sturridge and the extra outlay that would come with his demanded wages?

Who is it that you want to buy that's proven? Oh and please be sensible with your ideas regarding 1. Transfer fee and 2. Wage structure.

As it is, then yes I'd like to see us try and get someone like Rhodes, but I don't want us to get rid of Murray before we see if he can hack it in the premiership and the only way any of us can know that is by him getting games. I'm not ready to give up on Gayle either and would like to see him get some games perhaps alongside Murray in the last few games of the season.
