These players have been 'successfully' converted into FULL BACKS, not centre backs.

I agree but looking at the Scotland team yesterday, Charlie Mulgrew played as a centre-half but he has mainly played as a left-back and his partner in central defence Russell Martin has mainly played at right-back.

The thing is that Ward is a better right back. Although I think Richards would be a decent CB, I'd worry that at 5.11 he'd be too small for that role. His physique makes him look taller. Then again, Baresi was a dwarf but immense as a cb back in the day.

In actual fact Richards has a tremendous leap on him.
Mascherano isn't that big but he does OK in central defence !

Are you all forgetting where Southgate played for us for a number of years before going to centre back. Even remember Coleman playing upfront, but I think we converted him from centre back to forward back to centre back again?

But yes, there is a need for some elements to be coached into a player. You can only tell how to read the game, its down to the player to take it in and show it in a live game.

I have a feeling that when Coleman was at Swansea he was mainly a left-back.John Salako went on Loan to Swansea whilst Coleman was there.

You are right. Coleman was a left back at Swansea and, indeed, a left back for us for at least one season before he converted to centre half.

Sadly another player who's potential was squandered on a billionaires bench. Four or five years ago, on the verge of being the best full back in the country, 19 games in four seasons is a tragic waste.

What goes around, comes around. I wonder if players are not finally wising up to this reality and the decision of Milner to eschew the wages for a useful role on the pitch elsewhere won't open the floodgates. Richards and Rodwell fading into obscurity from can't-miss prospect status isn't a great advertisement for a move to the Etihad.

Or indeed White Hart Lane. Are you paying attention Mr Bolasie?

Spurs aren't the worst at developing talent. Look at modric, bale, kane. man city havent developed a player since god knows when.

In an interview with Sky Sports on the telly this morning Richards has said that he wants to play as a CB. Can't help but feel we missed a chance with this one, especially on a free.
