Puncheon has been in superb form for us lately, but he needs to perform at that level in the top flight consistently to be in the reckoning for an England call up.

Trevor Sinclair was a late call up for someone injured, based on form and not experience, and had a blinding world cup.

Optimistic as ever

Won't happen because he doesn't play for a big club.

Or because he isn't actually good enough. Funnily enough, me trying to spell actually on my iphone came up 'act silly' and it summed up your post perfectly.

I would say he looks as good as any I have seen for England in recent World Cup matches. No I guess it will not happen because of class distinction prevailing in the feeble minds of the selectors.

Oh wow. This thread is fantastic

Why would an England manager put his reputation on the line to promote such an unknown quality this close to the World Cup?

Another one

Andros Townsend was included, why not Puncheon?

Absolutely ridiculous how Hodgson seems to only include players for big clubs. I mean even if f***ing Pirlo was English and was playing for us he wouldn't be included in the World Cup Squad.

This is the best one yet

Puncheon is class but no International pedigree, shame the World Cup is so close, year later and continuing great form and he couldn't be ignored. For now lets keep him wrapped up for next season for our European assault!

This isn't even reality. Puncheon has been great for us, but one of the four best wingers available, even potentially, no chance.

Mr Rainhameagle a complete lack of respect to the poster and other replies, perfectly good subject 'Puncheon For Eagle' and an interesting debate, don't know why you are so critical. If I am reading you right you believe that Puncheon simply isn't good enough yet he is playing and scoring regularly in a team fighting relegation, surely playing with international class players will only make him look even better?

Do you agree?

Well we deny his class but many fans of other clubs and talksport reckon he should be in with a shoot.

I'm kind of the view that he's done a Clinton Morrison role for us lately. Scores and then been pretty innocuous for the other 89 minutes.

Don't get me wrong, if he scores 4 in 4 a few times a season I'll be laughing, it's all he has to do, but is popping up with a few goals and otherwise being relatively quiet going to be enough to suddenly get you in the England squad for a World Cup? Absolutely not. Especially when the defending for the three he got against Cardiff and Villa was dire. Punch can only play what's in front of him and is doing it very well, but he'll have those chances shut down by the Spanish/Germans/Argentinians as he has been by Arsenal, United, Chelsea ..... It'd be a different story if he was whipping in three or four dangerous crosses a game, but he isn't at the moment.

He's the absolute opposite of Sterling. Punch gets one chance, takes it and is quiet otherwise. Sterling gets in great positions and then can't ever seen to score or supply as many as he should. Put them together and you'd have the ultimate winger.

Southampton are a fairly solid, unglamorous mid-table club and there was never any question of Lambert, Lallana, Rodriguez and Shaw being in the frame for a WC place, so I don't think the 'unglamorous club' angle real fits as much as it would have done 5-10 years ago. I'm not convinced Puncheon is of that quality really, but if there was a friendly coming up and he was still on form, there's every chance he'd have got a call up, however cursory.

Haven't seen any other English top flight wingers score 4 goals in the last 3 games, plus I didn't say he was good enough to be called up. Read and think before posting next time.

Ps. You had a bad night or something? Just read the rest of the thread and you're acting like a right c***.
