1. - do you think you can consolidate in the Premier League next season or will it be a case of a second season struggle?
If we can keep Pulis, and we can make a few telling signings, I think we can establish ourselves in the Premier, but won't be easy.

2.Tony Pulis got a reputation for being a bit 'agricultural' at Stoke but how has he had Palace playing since he came to you?
It hasn't all been long ball stuff by any means. TP has regularly picked two wingers, Puncheon & Bolasie, so it certainly hasn't been a case of booting it down the middle. We do give the opposition plenty of possession but we can be very hard to break-down

3. As it's football's awards season - who are Palace's Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year?
Damien Delaney & Joel Ward?

4. Who do you see as being Palace's main threats to Liverpool?
We have several secret weapons!!

5. What are your best and worst memories of Palace vs Liverpool over the years?
BEST Palace 4 Liverpool 3 Cup Semi 1990. WORST - Liverpool 3 Palace 0 1979 - that match went some way to bursting the bubble of our "team of the 80s"

6. If you could get one of your ex-players back in the Palace squad and in their prime today who would you pick and what would they add to today's side?
Kenny Samson and/or Don Rogers,

7. What have you made of Liverpool this season?
I would like to see Liverpool win the title. I wasn't sure that you would keep your challenge up, and until the Chelsea setback, I thought you'd win the Prem. You still might, but obviously as a Palace fan I hope you lose another 3pts next Monday

8. If you could take any of Liverpool's players for Palace and dump your worst player onto us, who'd be packing their bags and filling the Bugatti's tank for the trips along the M6?
Suarez would be good, and, in my opinion, a fair swap for Aaron Wilbraham.

9. Finally, predictions for Monday night?
2-1 to Palace

5. What are your best and worst memories of Palace vs Liverpool over the years?

A no-brainer, best has to be Villa Park and the way after the game many Liverpool fans congratulated us and wished us well.

That acknowledgement made a big impression on me too.

Quote Kop Blocks at 29 Apr 2014 8.52pm

Alright all?

I've joined from a Liverpool site (kopblocks.com) - we're a fairly newish forum that's only been going for a few months. One of the things we've tried to get going is a 'View From That Lot' feature where we get the opinion of whoever our opposition for that week is. Obviously we're facing Palace at the weekend so if you've got a few minutes and don't mind asking a few questions I'd appreciate it!

1. You've made an impressive recovery from a terrible start to the season and already guaranteed your safety - do you think you can consolidate in the Premier League next season or will it be a case of a second season struggle? Mid-table respectability with a very outside shot at a Europa league place.

2. I've not seen much of Palace this season (outside of occasional Match of the Day highlights) - Tony Pulis got a reputation for being a bit 'agricultural' at Stoke but how has he had Palace playing since he came to you? Like any good manager, Tony P's tactics have been to use the player's best talents, which on this team is overall pace. The style is to move together as one forward and back with wide play being the key.

3. As it's football's awards season - who are Palace's Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year? POY-Speroni, YPOY Bolassie

4. Who do you see as being Palace's main threats to Liverpool? Wing play from Bolassie, Ward on the overlap with creative approach and finishing from Puncheon.

5. What are your best and worst memories of Palace vs Liverpool over the years? Having stood on the Holte End for the '90 Cup Semi, nothing is better than that. A absolute blinder of a match, L'pool supporters were great afterwards. I have enjoyed every Palace Liverpool match I've seen because you have such smashing good supporters. Besides, I'm also a Boston Red Sox fan and our owners bought LFC.

6. When I was a kid (80s/early 90s) Palace seemed to have loads of players who ended up moving on and making big careers for themselves at some big clubs (Ian Wright's the obvious one but you seemed to have quite a conveyor belt for a while). If you could get one of your ex-players back in the Palace squad and in their prime today who would you pick and what would they add to today's side? I started watching Palace in '89, so my era was Wright, Bright, Gray, Thomas, Salako, Eric the Ninja, Thorn & Martyn.

7. What have you made of Liverpool this season? Absolutely fantastic season, hope you take the league but I still want a Palace win on Monday. A draw wouldn't be the worst thing either.

8. If you could take any of Liverpool's players for Palace and dump your worst player onto us, who'd be packing their bags and filling the Bugatti's tank for the trips along the M6? Although you have younger players, Gerrard is the class of the Liverpool squad. I would love him for his veteran leadership and 100% commitment.

9. Finally, predictions for Monday night? I predicted a 3-2 (1-0) Palace win on HOL's Prediction League so I'll stick with that.

Thanks in advance for any answers!

I hope my answers have been helpful. I live in NYC and haven't been back to Selhurst since October, 1995.

1. If we keep Pulis and make some astute additions to the squad we'll be ok. Survival again will be the aim.

2. Not "agricultural" at all. We've played with a solid defence and counter-attacked with pace and penetration. It's been good to watch.

3. Mile Jedinak & Yannick Bolasie.

4. Jason Puncheon.

5. The evening of the 9-0 I was working nights with a scouser. Worst night of my life, never heard the last of it. Obviously repaid him in spades after the 4-3 at Villa Park

6. Jim Cannon.

7. Done better than I expected. Kudos to Rodgers for the job he's done although his comments about us after you lost to Chelsea were ignorant and disrespectful.

8. Everyone will say Suarez but I love Raheem Sterling, cracking player he is. You can take Paddy Mac off us.

9. 2-0 win for you.

For what it's worth, I'd rather you lot won the league than City or Chelsea. Have a family connection to Liverpool and a resultant soft spot. Good luck, apart from Monday

1. You've made an impressive recovery from a terrible start to the season and already guaranteed your safety - do you think you can consolidate in the Premier League next season or will it be a case of a second season struggle?

We are currently as good or better than anyone in the "bottom" 14. Therefore we can finish anywhere from 7th to 20th. I suspect it will be at the higher end of the bracket due to a combination of ownership/managerial stability, solid/stifling defense and (hopefully) improved goal scoring through transfer activity.

2. I've not seen much of Palace this season (outside of occasional Match of the Day highlights) - Tony Pulis got a reputation for being a bit 'agricultural' at Stoke but how has he had Palace playing since he came to you?

We play like a bargain basement Chelsea or Real Madrid. Parking the bus on defense and countering at lightning pace - mostly on the ground and mostly down the wings, although Chelsea learned to their cost that if they weaken the midfield in order to gain an attacking advantage, we'll happily run right through there too.

3. As it's football's awards season - who are Palace's Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year?

Hard to overlook Jedinak, who has played every single minute thus far, and Delaney who has been a giant rock in the defense, but I have to go with Speroni and Ward. We have won a ton of games 1-0, and Jules has made at least one worldy in each of those wins. Ward has played all over the pitch, and has done so with great energy, skill and composure.

4. Who do you see as being Palace's main threats to Liverpool?

Bolasie and Puncheon. They have given fits to most full backs they've been up against this year.

5. What are your best and worst memories of Palace vs Liverpool over the years?

Worst - easily - is the 9-0. I walked into my office the next morning with a collage of that morning's papers splattered all over the wall by my desk. It did spawn your song "One goal went past Perry...Went past Perry Suckling", which I think is genius and makes me laugh every time I hear it.

Best was the FA Cup semi-final that same season. I was there. I still don't believe it.

Wright by a mile, even if he did once flip me off in traffic. He'd feast on the service he'd get from Bolasie and Puncheon.

7. What have you made of Liverpool this season?

Great going forward, shaky at the back, excellent manager. Timed it nicely with Moan U faltering, but you can only play who's put in front of you.

8. If you could take any of Liverpool's players for Palace and dump your worst player onto us, who'd be packing their bags and filling the Bugatti's tank for the trips along the M6?

Sturridge for Jerome. Can't get past Suarez' past antics, as I'm not convinced he's reformed. Jerome would be an "A" class player if he had a clue how to put the ball in the net. He doesn't and, as that's his main job, it's a real shame - breaks my heart actually because the guy works so hard.

9. Finally, predictions for Monday night?

Can't see us keeping you out. Can't see you keeping us out. Can see you having tons of possession but with little penetration - which is the norm for Palace games.

1-1

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Here's a question for you! What difference has this bloke made to your team and do you think Pulis should use him next season?

He's worked miracles with the British Cycling team and Ronnie O'Sullivan... [Link]

He seems to have given them the self belief to play as well as they can. Aside from a couple of games (Hull away and f-ing Chelsea spring to mind!) our players, particularly the midfield and attack, have been playing at pretty much their best all season whereas for the last few years we've been a step below far too often and nailed on to lose the niggly little games against relegation strugglers where your mental state is as important as your skill with the ball.

This year our best have been outstanding (Suarez, Sturridge, Gerrard and Sterling especially) and those who were probably seen as pretty average have really stepped up and shown the improvements that Brendan's coaching has made (Henderson and Flanagan are the obvious two). More than that, we've shown fight and belief that we've not had since the best years under Rafa. I don't know how much of that's down to him and how much down to Rodgers but between them something's gone very right so far!

If he's available next season (and I hope he's still with us!) then I'd imagine there'll be a very big queue of teams hoping he can have as much of an effect on their players' mentality as he has with us. He'd definitely be worth giving a shot to.

1. You've made an impressive recovery from a terrible start to the season and already guaranteed your safety - do you think you can consolidate in the Premier League next season or will it be a case of a second season struggle? I think we will be ok next season but I just hope the fans don't start whinging and keep up the terrific support of the last few years.

2. I've not seen much of Palace this season (outside of occasional Match of the Day highlights) - Tony Pulis got a reputation for being a bit 'agricultural' at Stoke but how has he had Palace playing since he came to you? He gets us the points we need and does a job. I'm sure you would've heard/seen what we did at Goodison - that was no means as simple as "parking the bus"

3. As it's football's awards season - who are Palace's Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year?Has to be Joel Ward for both but it feels wrong Speroni not getting a mention too.

4. Who do you see as being Palace's main threats to Liverpool?Puncheon, Chamakh + Bolasie

5. What are your best and worst memories of Palace vs Liverpool over the years?I'm still young so my memories go back to the league cup "worthington cup" it was at the time - 2-1 home win and then come to you lot and lost 5-0 and even Igor Biscan scored a goal - awful night

6. When I was a kid (80s/early 90s) Palace seemed to have loads of players who ended up moving on and making big careers for themselves at some big clubs (Ian Wright's the obvious one but you seemed to have quite a conveyor belt for a while). If you could get one of your ex-players back in the Palace squad and in their prime today who would you pick and what would they add to today's side?People like to forget Wilf easily because he hasn't done great since he left but he was the most exciting talent I have ever seen at Selhurst and that includes the likes of Victor Moses etc. he was breathtaking at times last season

7. What have you made of Liverpool this season?Whether the rest of the board love it or hate it, Liverpool have always been my second team (when I used to play up front as little boy, I was always compared to Michael Owen, kinda took off from there) I think to keep me emotionally stable, I had to have a succesful team I followed whilst still devoting my complete support to Palace. I said you would be a force this season but never expected you to be in the position you were in. I thought Suarez was the best in the league last season anyway so wasn't surprised at his performances this year (although he has been out of this f***ing world). The only problem you have is you are a little one dimensional - you can play football as good as anyone in the world at the moment but when it comes to sitting back, breaking down teams and grinding out results - you struggle, and it could weel be costly for you lot this season.

8. If you could take any of Liverpool's players for Palace and dump your worst player onto us, who'd be packing their bags and filling the Bugatti's tank for the trips along the M6? Luis Suarez would be in for Aaron Wilbraham

9. Finally, predictions for Monday night? Difficult to predict this one but I think you might struggle

Thanks in advance for any answers!

1. You've made an impressive recovery from a terrible start to the season and already guaranteed your safety - do you think you can consolidate in the Premier League next season or will it be a case of a second season struggle?

Very much so. We had enough wit to use the January window to consolidate on our turnaround in November and December and with shrewd leaders in both the boardroom and the manager's office, I'm quite sure we'll consolidate on our second half improvement this season during the summer window. I look for a solid 9th-14 place finish next year.

2. I've not seen much of Palace this season (outside of occasional Match of the Day highlights) - Tony Pulis got a reputation for being a bit 'agricultural' at Stoke but how has he had Palace playing since he came to you?

Intelligently, given our resources. We defend in numbers and use a couple of highly competent midfield ball winners (Jedinak, Dikgakoi) to break up the opposition's play and spring our two wide men (Bolasie and Puncheon) who then use their considerable speed to counter attack. We are stout at the back to be sure but not agricultural and though we rarely have the possession to attack in waves, when breaking at speed we can be a joy to watch and we cause other teams problems. Net year, I expect to take another step forward and play a similar style but with more possession.

3. As it's football's awards season - who are Palace's Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year?

POTY would be Speroni or Jedinak; take your pick. YPOTY would be Ward if you think he's "young" (which is debatable in my book.)

4. Who do you see as being Palace's main threats to Liverpool?

I don't think we threaten in the deliberate manner you suggest, and in the way -- say -- that you rely on Suarez who in turn is clearly your biggest threat. We don't really threaten on an individual level: our main threat is team speed on the counter attack. If I had to name a player, Puncheon for his eye for goal allied to his speed and Bolasie, who until last week appeared to be rounding into form.

5. What are your best and worst memories of Palace vs Liverpool over the years?

Do you really need to ask for either? Clue: same season, about six month's apart. The 2-3 League Cup game in the 70s when Doris put us 1-0 up with a piledriver from 30 yards out before Keegan and co. responded with three is another fond memory of mine.

Well, we lack two things now. A left back, and we produced arguably the best English one of those in history: Kenny Sansom. So he'd be in with a shout. And a goalscorer, and you'd really have to go with Ian Wright there although we've had a few good ones over the years (Trevor Aylott comes to mind. Not.) But even though we have a great keeper, the answer is John Jackson simply because he's the best footballer to ever walk the face of the earth. Late 60s early 70s, in case you were wondering. Some say God...

7. What have you made of Liverpool this season?

Impressive on the pitch. If Brendan Rogers was chocolate, he'd eat himself and I really don't warm to him personally for that reason. But he's a damn good manager. I spent the better part of half a decade in Boston so I am deeply familiar with John Henry, the Red Sox and FSG. When they bought Liverpool I spent a lot of time re-assuring fans of yours in my orbit that they needn't worry; they were in good hands. And so it's proved. Basically, in a perfect world we'd thrash you Monday night but you'd win the league the following week. And if you hadn't folded against Chelsea, it might have happened that way, too!

8. If you could take any of Liverpool's players for Palace and dump your worst player onto us, who'd be packing their bags and filling the Bugatti's tank for the trips along the M6?

One of yours? Let me think...name begins with an "s" and it ain't Sturridge or Skrtel (though to be fair, I'd have the latter's wife.) As for who you can have in return, you'll need a replacement for Suarez so it seems only fair to offer you Aaron Wilbraham. And before you start complaining, a few weeks ago it'd have been Eliot Grandin so things are definitely moving in the right direction for you.

9. Finally, predictions for Monday night?

Hot chocolate before bed, sex if I'm lucky and I get in at a decent hour, and 1-1.

We've had many a trip to Fenway to watch the Blue Jays play the Red Sox. Fenway's a wonderful quirky ground that had echoes of Selhurst for me. From their Boston experience I'm sure FSG will be well aware of the need to maintain a lively atmosphere as they redevelop Anfield.

Just wonder if the Gerrard slip will ultimately be viewed in the same category as the Bill Buckner blunder that saw the Red Sox lose the World Series to the Mets after essentially having it all sown up.

1. We will be favourites for relegation but a lot will depend on who we buy - we did have luck with injuries this season with what is essentially a wafer thin squad

2. Something I was worried about and it one thing I have been really happy with (bar a couple of games where we essentailly played 'anti-football against teams who where there for the taking). We defend deep and in numbers and cede possession for sure, but play on the break quickly and at times do play some nice stuff.

3. Speroni has won games and points for us and Damien Delaney has stepped up amazingly so its hime for for me with Joel Ward as Young Player

4. Yala - Quick as lightening - If he is on he will give the FB problems

5. The 4-3 without a doubt is the high with the 0-9 a real downer that proved to have a silver lining - it actually re-inforced for what the players needed to do to stay up at the highest level

6. Kenny Sansom - we need a LB and he is arguably the best one England have ever had let alone Palace.

7. What have you made of Liverpool this season?
Have been really explosive and have been very adaptable in suiting systems to games - I did think you would be top 4 but have been a little surpsrised you have managed to keep it going as title contenders for so long

8. Sturridge for me - really like him as a player and we could swap for Wilbrahimovic

9. Heart says 0-0 Draw - Head says 2-1 Liverpool
