Wouldn't it be great if someone organised a special evening in the Glaziers with Jacko, Nigel & Jools, plus maybe Budgie & Vic Rouse?

Nice to see that my first 'hero', Vic Rouse, gets a mention..

As for the best...football changes , the ball for instance, from solid leather, back in 59, to the modern day material in 2014.. change of flight, weight, handling, how it behaves in wet, or dry, cold or hot, temperature etc..

There are a lot of different variables to consider..
Lets just say, all those mentioned were more then brilliant, at the time..

Today, without any shadow of a doubt 'Jules', is unbelievable at times..can I say the best ever..impossible to answer, for the reason's that I have mentioned.. but, I would like to think so..

Here since 81...(LAST CENTURY !!).. x-Dunraven School, early 1960.... Palace 'nut' since 58....

And I forgot Bill Glazier.

These guys are all still with us. It would be fantastic to get a photo of them all lined up.

Nigel Martyn. He just is the best. Speroni is great too but not quite as great.

I seem to remember an amazing save from Andy Booth at home to Huddersfield in a 0-0 in in hmmmmm 95/96ish that actually got a standing ovation for about 2 minutes.

Was that when he got from one post to the other as the striker thought he had a simple tap in? If so, I remember thinking that it was IMPOSSIBLE.

Yes it was. The only thing that happened in the whole game but iI've never forgotten it at all.

I can remember Speroni when he first joined and he wasn't very good. Had a mare up at Old Trafford and I wondered why the hell we paid as much as we did for him from Dundee. He has got better and better each season with a brilliant season this year. Couple more season playing like he is and he will become my top ever keeper. but Martyn is mine at the minute. Budgie was a great stopper too.

Seen them all since Vic Rouse and have to say Jacko tops my list. Not by a country mile though. Budgie,Nige, and Jules come next and, as has been said, are difficult to call apart. Bill Glazier next.
I`d say we have been blessed with very good and above keepers for the vast majority of my time watching The Palace.

Is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour? [Link]

How about a statue of the original Jacko outside SP to bring us some luck?

And while we are reminiscing about goalkeepers past, how about Jacko's protege Paul Hammond - well over a hundred appearances, but perhaps a little cursed.

I am not sure how you compare players from different decades as it seems unfair to compare the fitness levels and the difference in the games speed......can you imagine (with respect) Swindlehurst competing with todays defenders or even Malcom Macdonald. So I think we should just say that we have had some good goalkeepers and the three most often mentioned are the best we have had in the last 40 yrs.
