Any memories of the 1990-91 season?

I was drinking my Dad tonight and we discussed that season, I was born in 88 so have no memory of any of it. What was it like to be a Palace fan in those heady years with 3rd place, the Cup final in 90 and winning the full members?

All I know is relegation and fear for the clubs survival. That's why this season has been so magic for me.

It was the ZDS Cup we won during it's brief inception. We had a very good team with a couple of exceptional players which raised the level of everybody else I remember.
Should have played in Europe the following year but EUFA banned English clubs for 5 years. That's why the Liverpool result was so sweet.

It was brilliant. The media was against the way we played but it was effective. The trouble is I took it all for granted at the time. Still we had a brilliant kit at the time and Wembley style goal nets. Pictures in the classic pictures gallery. Great days.

Twitter, message boards and Facebook give the tw@ts a voice. The kind of people you'd ignore in the pub.

It was all right but nothing like fighting for promotion/avoiding relegation in the championship with good ol' down to earth football people that you can meet up with in pub beforehand, lovely! The admins, they're just fantastic.

All of the above is sarcasm.

I'm another who was too young to remember this period of our history. How did we go from third to relegated? Has any club in history gone from such a high finishing position to relegation in just two seasons?

A team full of internationals, Salako, Thomas, Wright, Gray, Martin, plus Bright, Ninja, Thorn, the best squad I have ever seen, even better than the "team of the 80s".

I think I remember Eric the Ninja Young getting revenge on Martin Keown, and three goals in extra time too. Who cares if it was "only" the ZDS cup, we won at Wembley. I had watched Palace for 28 years before going to the cup final in 1990, so to be able to go again within 12 months and win was magical.

Could be wrong here, but I think it was the other way around - when we played Everton at Selhurst shortly afterwards Keown got his revenge on the Ninja, who was then out for quite a while with a knee injury.
But yes, a great day out.
I remember everyone strolling around on the pitch after we beat Man U on the last day. They were playing a weakened side as they were going to the Cup Winners Cup final or something the next week - the competition we should have been in!

Top memory was going to Wimbledon away when they still had their crappy ground at Plough Lane. We won 3-0 and Wrighty scored a hat-trick including an outrageous lob from near the halfway line. Funnily that game stands out more for me than the 3-0 victory over a Man Utd team with lots of reserves a week later. They were the last two matches of a great season.

I also remember a 0-0 home draw with Arsenal. Salako scored with a stunning volley that was wrongly ruled out for offside. I was in the Arfur right in line with play and I knew the lino's offside call was wrong. The sense of injustice lingered for a long time.

The right place at the right time
