I must agree he has turned out much better than probably most expected and I too hope he resigns.

I remember Holloway saying that his deal was for more than one year if we stay up. So I presume his contract will automatically roll on for next season...

I think we signed him for 12 months with the option of another 12 on top. It's obviously down to the player and what he wants to do; Arsenal have, so the story goes, been paying a percentage of his wages this season but it's unclear if that arrangement will carry on for another year. He's meant to be on lumpy wages (£60k pw has been bandied about) which might be an obstacle. I'm not sure anyone else would be willing to match that (some in the French League, perhaps) so, if he wants to stay, he's going to have to take a pretty hefty wage cut.

Let's hope a deal can be done - he's a quality player and it'd be unfortunate to lose him.

Agreed that we have another year option on him and him with us, as you say it's what he wants to do, I hope he stays here, he's a quality player and I think we'll see even better from him if he stays.

My understanding of his transfer to us is this: We paid Arsenal circa £1m to release him from his contract, they passed that money onto him as compensation, which subsidised his wages, that way we didn't break through our wage limit.

I suspect the only way round this is to offer him a signing on bonus and then reduce his wages to our ceiling (20k pw?).

You could see the difference during his spell out of the side what a loss it was, he does so much in terms of our build up play and the team seem so much more confident with him there.

The bonus is he's a pleasure to watch and have around the club, he always speaks highly of us when interviewed.
I love how like Pulis & Palace he is another to upset the odds and defy the so called experts. In fact you could pretty much say that about our entire club this year

He's made it clear he wants to stay at Palace. He'll have other offers but unless they are of the sort he can't turn down, I'm sure we'll reach an agreement with him.

This article contains his comments and is a nice take on just how much he is enjoying himself now. Given the problems he has had, I don't think he will want to risk leaving so long as the contract offer he gets from us is a fair one.

For me he is the best footballer at the club. Not necessarily the most effective throughout the season, but in terms of ability he is one of the best we've had.

Even when he joined us, he was a shadow of what he is now he has confidence and is happy.

I too have really changed my opinion of him. After the bottled tackle against Stoke and that dive when he was through on goal I thought I had him pegged. How wrong could I be. One of the hardest working and most unselfish players around and his talent really shines through. That withdrawn role really seems to suit him too. I sincerely hope we manage to hold on to him.

That would be a way around it and would hopefully not upset any of the other players, no doubt SP and IM will have done their homework and sorted details like that out.

Yeah, that's why I (and most likely you) love this club so much, long may it continue!!

Cheers Hambo, good article. I'm with you, he's the best technical footballer at the club, that and the effort he now puts in makes him one of our best signings in years.

I still think his confidence needs some work, as he seems to only want to shoot when it's a nailed on certainty that he's going score or at least hit the target, in summary I believe he needs to play a little more naturally. Perhaps his time at the Ar$e has affected him more than everyone realises.

It's been a great season of sticking two fingers up at the establishment. We were favourites for relegation, Chamakh was a waste of space and Pulis only knew the long ball game.

I love being a Palace fan!
