Marco Gabbiadini maybe ? He was Noades choice post Ian Wright and we all wanted him to do well - and so did he - but he just was not up to it ! I remember the really frustrating bit is that Alan Shearer was going to be Wrights replacement but we wouldn't pay Saints the extra £100k they wanted so we went for Marco instead. Some things never change.......

My reply was along the lines of '' couldn't trap a bag of cement....a willing work/cart horse of a player '' Five days later he was ours, and for a quite large fee. His partnership with Chris Jones struck fear in the heart of the fans. Our own, i mean. But he never gave up, chased every ball, and attitude wise he was spot on.

Bert " chopper " Howe. Right back when Dick Graham was manager and Palace had a reputation for being over physical. Also, Ray Potter who was goalkeeper at my first game and let the ball slip through his legs and roll into the net. He went on to have a successful career with West Brom though.

I was actually quite pleased when we signed him, I saw him make his debut as a 16 year old for Chelsea in 1976 I think it was and he had a good start to his career, little did I know how crap he'd become, should've known really the type of player we were bringing in at that time!!

Bert Howe was great - not subtle I admit, or quick, not much of a football brain - but he could stop some good players very effectively.
