interesting-no counter argument(there's a first!) More evidence that the coalition ain't very good.

To be honest i copuldnt be arsed to read through it all....can you give me the main points?

That many people are having their benefits withheld because there is a massive backlog of delayed assessments or decisions.

Between the two benefits, Employment & Support Allowance and Personal Independence Payments, an eye watering 1,031,100 claimants have yet to receive the legal decision which determines their claim. It leaves claimants in absolute turmoil and completely unable to access the help they need.

This doesn't include the thousands who are appealing against decisions.

I too can't be arsed to read another Gusset 'shock horror' bulls*** link, so ask that all of this is verified as true and correct by a respected independent body? It is not just the writings of someone with a political agenda.

If you can't be bothered to read it then why bother spurting out an opinion

From the article...

On the 23rd June 2014, the then disability minister Mike Penning admitted in Parliament that the number of claimants awaiting an assessment for Employment & Support Allowance had stood stood at a staggering 766,000.

On the 5th June 2014 the DWP quietly produced statistics relating to the government’s new Personal Independence Payment statistics which showed that from April 2013 to March 2014 out of 349,000 new claims made, just 83,900 had reached the stage where a formal decision had been made on the applicant’s claim – a backlog of 265,100 claims where the claimant hasn’t received one single penny of the benefit for which they have applied.

Because Gusset's way of whipping up contrarian hatred is to post s***e from lefty blogs.

This has been going on for years and it has become a dull endeavour.

Trust this satisfies your curiosity.

An application for benefit does not mean that the person is eligible for it.

You are always arguing against the government not doing things properly (I.e., IT contracts) but here seem to want the proper course of action by passed as it suits you.

The DWP actually doing anything would be a start! Of course it doesn't help that cuts have led to a reduction in staff to process the claims.

And behind the figures are actual, real people who are in dire straights because of the department's incompetence / tardiness.

Perhaps this is the biggest reason for the delay(?) Thanks for giving me the salient points though

You have to make an argument for there to be any counter-arguments.

You've just posted a link to an angry, lefty blog. Again.

My argument was that those at the DWP are unfeeling b******s.

Why are they withholding benefits (or plain not giving them at all) to those that need it. They really don't give a s***. IDS is the worst out of that bad bunch in power-yes, worse than Gove.

So much for solidarity amongst the public service then.

Perhaps their response is because they are simply implementing the law as laid down by the government of the day (a bit like teachers teaching to the dictat of OFSTED.

It's called public service and however much us in it object to it and however much those of us in the public sector unions object, s*** happens. Blame the law makers not the enforcers.

Doubt you branded the civil servants who stood toe to toe with teachers on the recent day of action quite so harshly.

My argument wasn't against the civil servants, though I can see how that may have come across, they can only work with what they've got.
IDS has overseen, therefore is culpable, a massive decline in the quality of service in the DWP. One only needs to look at the ATOS debacle.
