30 years old, high wages, little re-sale value.

Drogba 37 still playing for the top team in the PL

Completely irrelevant , ba would guarantee between 10-15 goals a season and would suite the way we play , with the new TV deal kicking in after next season , we would be looking at 100 million+ from TV rights , and that's if we came 20th , the fee and wages are peanuts in comparison if we stay where we are for the next few years.

Funny enough I was talking to a friend of my wifes, a Chelsea fan, last night and he claims to know Demba Ba's agent. He was saying this is an already done deal, just waiting for the transfer window to open before its confirmed.

But that also sounds like half the bulls*** in the know nonsense that makes up the 'summer quiet period'.

When's the window open?

Think it opened a couple of days ago...

Nope, player contracts terminate on 30th June and the window opens, as always, on the 1st July.

Yep, it opened in Europe on 9th June, to add to that "there is nothing stopping a club signing a player" Stoke have already signed two players, Liverpool have already secured Ings, Milner, and Bogdan, Man U Depay, Swansea Ayew, Everton Cleverley, West Ham Obiang, the list goes on.

Although those players have been registered they wont be ratified until 1st July, they are still signed as at least 5 have received International clearance, which is needed before they can sign.

If he started all 38 league games then Glen Murray would guarantee us 10-15 goals per season.

He has as much chance of starting that many as Demba Ba and we know what he can do for us.

If we are going to improve on the centre-forward position then our sights have to be a lot higher than someone like Demba Ba.

Ba would be great and given our improved financial status we could afford him. He knows Pardew well and was performing well for him when Ashley decided to cash him in. A good piece of business IMHO.

I agree. I don't consider Ba to be much of an upgrade on Murray. Although I do rate both.

Whilst ba isn't a huge upgrade on Murray , he has two key attributes Murray doesn't , real pace and power!! We need at least someone as good as Murray to compete with him as if Murray is out long term I'm not sure chamakh is the answer!! if you think we are gonna sign someone a lot higher than ba , then your going to be disappointed.

No, Chamakh is not a power player where as Ba is.

Other than his time at Chelsea, Ba has managed around a goal every other game. I really was impressed by Glenn Murray, this season gone, but I'd be surprised if he could outscore Demba Ba in a season. I doubt either could manage to play all 38 games either.

I think we have to remember the strength in depth thing here too. Lots of people saying the word "replace" but if you look at the teams above us they not only have a great first 11 but the bench is strong too. Imagine having Murray on the pitch and the being able to bring on ba (or visa versa) or having puncheon on and bringing on cabaye? A lot of the time our bench looked a little weak but if we can bring in players without losing any we would have definitely moved up a level. It then falls on to AP to rotate the squad well enough to keep players happy and also gives us great cover for injuries.

Maybe replace is the right word but we are thinking the wrong players. How about replace Campbell with ba?
