Seems Dave doesn't realise the effects Osborne's cuts are having on local councils.

A good article that kind of sums up this thread to me:

Borrowing up again. Osborne has no clue.
No doubt he'll cut again instead of investing.
Still its probably the fault of immigration.

Let's try violent crime up as a result of cuts to the police service.
well done Dave + Co.

The chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales has slammed Tory budget cuts after shocking new crime figures were revealed.

Steve White’s comments add to pressure on Home Secretary Theresa May , after it was reported that knife attacks surged by almost 10 per cent last year.

Murders rose 14 per cent and gun crime rose for the first time in almost a decade.

Official stats showed there were 27,487 stabbings and other knife crimes across England and Wales in the year to September 2015 – the equivalent of 529 every week.

Steve White said: “These figures show an alarming rise in recorded crime - which is what we have been saying all along.

“There were 1.3 million violent incidents in England and Wales in the last year, and yet the police service is currently operating with 17,000 fewer officers than five years ago.”

Not sure I follow this - surely Police are responsible for the identification of the perpetrators after the event, not prevention per se?

Would reversal of the cuts have diminished those figures in any way at all? Aside from the deterrent factor of having a police officer present when you are actually doing the crime (which pretty much never happens, neither has it ever happened) then I'm not sure how police cuts reduce crime (as opposed to crime detection rates, which I would totally accept)

If someone commits a crime and are caught, they are less likely to repeat the crime as they would be sentenced / charged whatever. If there aren't enough police to catch perpetrators, surely it stands to reason that they will commit more crimes.

I'll bow to Jamie on that, but I'm sure he's got figures on repeat offenders somewhere
