And I haven't said all Capitalist countries are great or successful or democratic; although the more democratic they are, the more successful they tend to be. The Paris Commune lasted a couple of months didn't it - and that was spent fighting, how can anyone judge its worth? Revolutionary Catalonia the same, in a chaotic war (with the left inflicting as much damage on each other as the Fascists did - read Orwell's Homage to Catalonia). Kurds in Syria - again in a chaotic war.

Cuba is more Socialist than Uruguay and Venezuela because Cuba has practically everything under state control, with the inevitable inefficiencies, empty shelves etc, Uruguay and Venezeula still have lots of private (Capitalist) businesses, the fruits of which pay for their Socialist policies.

Is this true?

Israel and Italy. Couldn't be more democratic and they are the two most successful countries on earth by far. I agree with Derben.

My sarcasm alarm is ringing......

I like both countries a lot.

Good for you. I like Italy for its wine and history, but it never struck me as a bastion of democracy.

Generally the more wealthy a capitalist country is the more democratic they tend to be. Capitalism generally works better in a situation which is meritocratic, and needs a certain degree of flexibility that isn't seen in dictatorships and totalitarianism.

People often mistake countries like Saudi as capitalist, they aren't, not really. The market and flow of wealth is constrained and directed far too much by authority outside of capital.

Of course no country is truly capitalist (as non is truly socialist), because governments attempt to control and direct the markets towards their interest.

I entirely agree with you Mr. Martin.

So the most democratic country then is where?

Don't even control their own foreign policy.

Probably have control of their own borders and laws, we don't.

f*** knows - Norway according to the democracy index (9.93 rating) from the Economist. Fits a good model of whats been discussed here, capitalist mixed with socialist polices, wealthy and with a reasonable population density.

They don't.But we do, through operation of English law and local ordinances passed by a Governor appointed by the UK,based in N Zealand where they also serve in NZ as UK High Commissioner.

The entire population of the EU can come and live here if they want and we can do f-all about it.

The majority of our laws since 1993 have originated from the EU.

The European Court of f'in nonsense overrules our court decisions.

Please re-read my post. The "we do" refers to "us" controlling"their" (Pitcairn Islands) laws/borders,in response to your prior post about the Pitcairn Islands.
