If it actually causes real damage, then presumably it could be pursued. But nations should really be pragmatic and practical, rather than hysterical and absurd. By all means, arrest them, drive them to the airport, put them on a plane and ban them from the country, but actually arresting them and prosecuting them is absurdly over the top.

Its like Ireland's abortion laws. Utterly absurd kertowing to the Catholic majority, irrespective of the needs of the population and individuals interests.

I do fine them and then fly them out.....In today's culture 'shame' for poor behaviour appears to be almost ridiculed so I would insist that any cultural insult should be repaid in reasonable currency....As this is the language the west understands.

This whole case seems to be the result of what you get when you put crass and possibly entitled westerners, who think they can treat everything like a 'product to be consumed', on a holiday in a land with a different cultural mindset.

Similarly, the reaction to this crass and immature behaviour is also a bit backward but silly ideas are allowed everywhere.....To me, they thinking a mountain could be insulted is no more silly than our various religions here thinking than there's an old man in the sky updating a virtual spreadsheet on the rights and wrongs of their moral behaviour.

Prison time is an over-reaction and will damage their tourist trade.....Fine the fools and fly them out.

Yep, I pretty much agree with all of that. You can't offend a mountain. And I'm pretty sure tits and bums don't affect god, if it exists, on the basis that it actually invented tits, bums, sex, fannies willies etc it only really offends prudes.

Fine them, ban them from the country, send them home. Saves the country money, avoids unnecessary trials and ultimately shames and teaches the tards a lesson. As a mark of respect, those that can't pay the fine, the embassy will do so, pay for them to get home and then leverage those costs against that persons at a 20% mark up and 8% interest per annum.

Which they've already served. Fined about £700 each or something too, which is cheaper than 10 Buffalo would've been.

I'm sure that was a very valid and worthwhile expenditure of Malaysan public resources. The Judge showed a degree of proportion in contrast to the police, who have a task force actively searching for the other 8 people...

It'll be a bloody long search as there were only 6 others.

Didn't these people also p1ss on the "sacred" mountain as well as strip off?

I'm pretty sure there would be harsh penalties over here if someone was caught p1ssing on (lets say) The Cenotaph.

Foreign culture/customs/beliefs may seem trivial to us but we should respect it when visiting their countries, just as we would expect people to behave appropriately here.

Spot on. Being an experiment in artificial stupidity is not an excuse.

I seem to recall back in the day a West Ham fan known as 'West Ham Lass,' (they are not the most original bunch) who posted ever more gynaecological pics the more the 'appy 'ammers won.

They had a decent season from memory, so there's a thought.
