Clarkson is a nob but top Gear won't work without him.

Top Gear 'as we know it' won't work without Clarkson.

But Evans is a shrewd TV producer (as well as presenter) and there's no way he'll even attempt to try and continue the same formula.

So it'll be interesting to see what he comes up with.

When the time comes, I want die just like my Dad - at peace and asleep.
Not screaming and terrified.
Like his passengers.

Through the grapevine (a normally reliable source) the team for the new BBC series of top gear will be:

Chris Evans, Jodie Kidd and Jason Plato

Supporting Crystal Palace since 19.45 on 29th August 1972 (approximately)!

I hope and expect it to be a total disaster. Without the Hamster, Captain Slow and Generalisimo Nob Head it just won't work. In a few months the Socialist Republic of the BBC (with falling ratings) will be begging the mighty trio to come back.

I didn't mind May and Hammond, Evans can be a bit annoying, but at least he has some personality. Suzi Perry is usually alright on the MotoGP too.

She stopped doing Moto GP 5 years ago!

They'll need to make the show differently, which it doesn't sound like they're planning to do, as Evans works well with staff, not co-presenters.

In terms of his knowledge of cars and screen presence, he's the right choice probably.

Now show us the last 2-3 episodes that got pulled!

28th of this month is a 2 hour special of what we missed from the last series.

As for the new presenters, I'm not fussed any more. I only watched it for the 3 of them, even though the last couple of series weren't as good and were far more staged etc, I still loved it. Won't be watching it any more.

Agree with you skatters..... I'll watch the 2 hour special then no more.

I hate Evan's heavily formatted radio show and all of his TV efforts. TFI Friday was good for the bands, but pathetic otherwise.

The chemistry of the three presenters is what made it work. For proof, just watch anything that they made solo (or even with just two of the three) and try to get to the end without putting pencils up your nose and slamming your head on the table.

Without them, regardless of who will be the new presenters (and I make a special effort to avoid anything involving Chris Evans), it will be just a show about cars. And it will be boring as f*** because the cars on the old Top Gear were only there as fodder for the bickering interplay between the three curmudgeons.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Consider this. I think TG succeeded because it was headed by journo's.

Chris Evans, being an entertainer, will need partners that are journo's.

So I think that the others will be a bit of a surprise, rather than stock entertainers.

Also, I think that they should drop into various showrooms. Should be a bit of fun.

The name will also be dropped after a while, substituted by a Chris Evans' nomination.

i think the only way it will progress is with a totally different format, the clarkson/may/hammond way will be extremely difficult to follow, the only way is change, my view is that chris evans will have a lot of input and will put his stamp on it

Apparently Evans is auditioning 'Joe Public' for a role/s. A clever move imo, fishing from a bigger pond.

Personally i'd like to see Guy Martin on the show. As fast as you like, absolutely loves the 'technical side' and is as mad as your granny on her third sherry!
Any chance Chris.................?????

Very pleased for Chris, who, like him or not is an excellent presenter, if anyone can carry top gear onwards and upwards it's him, good luck Chris!
