Like Carragher, who was an Everton fan as a child, played for Liverpool I think that Robbie Fowler was also a boyhood Everton fan.And of course Denis Law went to Man C and scored a goal which sent Man Utd down ! Liverpool supporters saw Owen as the posh boy from Chester whereas they viewed Fowler as the working class boy from Toxteth hence they related more to Fowler.

At least my comment related to Michael Owen who entered the debate in a previous post.
