And I'm not being funny, but everyone knows those plug sockets aren't for public use. Arrested is a bit OTT I'll admit, but he knew... He was still using their power. Wouldn't be alright for me to steal my neighbour's!

You do get sockets for public use on trains alebit only on the good ones.

All this does is emphasise how sh1t the other ones are.

Should ban all phones, computers, mp3s, kindles and other electronic devices and only allow people to read the Daily Telegraph. (That's how I remember it when I commuted to work.)

Except for the one day a fortnight when Private Eye came out

The most depressing aspect of this story is that the police are so lacking in brains or any sense of priorities that they happily send four officers and a van to deal with someone who had stolen less than 1 pennyworth of electricity and was, according to them, "becoming aggressive". And their brilliant way of dealing with the situation was to arrest him, waste more time travelling to the station, and then de-arrest him. Goodness help you if you find your house has been burgled - you certainly won't find four policemen arriving within minutes.

With the extortionate prices of train fares these day's there should be a phone vending machine on every station. These should be handing out free a fully charged phone for every punter to use on their journey, job done.

it doesn't go into too much detail in the article, except that the reporting officer is a PCSO.

I wouldn't mind betting it went something like this:

1. PCSO flexes muscles and tells bloke to unplug phone, telling him what he's doing is illegal (almost certainly in a condescending tone)

2. bloke gets gobby and refuses in a "you can't make me, I know my rights" 6-year-old kind of way

3. PCSO overreacts and calls it in as an officer needing assistance

4. proper officers intercept the train in response to the assistance call and try to work out what's going on

5. bloke continues with attitude along the lines of "I'm not standing here talking to you - if you want to keep me here you'll have to arrest me"

6. officers left with little choice but to arrest

In short, PCSO and Joe Public need to grow up

I'm remaining neutral on this one

I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like.

If you charge your phone from the mains it costs about 1p to charge it for an hour. This bloke was charging it for a few minutes.

It's unlikely but it could damage his phone but that would have been his own fault.

Probably why they don't want them bring used. Heard someone saying it's OK for the cleaners to use whilst the trains parked up but when it's in use the power surges as it accelerates and brakes

You'd get someone (like this prat) who demand compensation if his phone got damaged

I would think that the electricity is charged Free as the train would generate its own power...

Trains don't generate their own power. They use fuel which they convert to produce power. Plugging in to a trains socket will consume more fuel, which isn't free.
