From McCarthy,s comments, don't think he will want to be an understudy for too long ,and sure he would,nt have come to us if that was the case .

The Mirror (yes I know) are reporting that McCarthy will sign for us in time to join the squad to fly to South Africa. Surely you don't spend £3.5M on a goalkeeper (assuming that's the transfer fee) unless he's coming in as number 1.

We spent 3Mill on Hennessey...

I don't see why everybody has such a problem with us building a good, strong squad. Two good keepers. 1 young, 1 experienced - what's not to like.

I don't have a problem with it at all - i was just stating that we spent 3M on Hennessey and he isn't first choice, so I wouldn't just expect McCarthy to be 1st choice if we spend 3.5 on him.

The thing I'm worried about is that we'll have two McCarthys and a McArthur and I won't know who the f*ck anyone is any more.

Hennessey was Pulis's man and apparently him & Pards don't see eye to eye. Let WH bugger off to WBA to be with TP and we'll have the bright young English prospect McCarthy, who by all accounts is a far better keeper than Hennessey anyway.

Not according to Sky who said the fee was 1.75m. However, the fee was undisclosed so I doubt either of us knows for certain.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

There is another possibility, maybe they see this as Speroni's last season, loan out H for a season with first team football. Bring in McCarthy as no.2. Jules retires/becomes coaching staff. And next year you have a settled no.1 who has had game time and a no.2 that is settled. Just a thought mind you.

At this stage in their careers, neither McCarthy nor Hennessey want ti be no 2. My sense is that this coming season is a transition one for Jules, from no 1 goalkeeper, to no 2 and hopefully coaching staff

Said on here before and its purely gut feel on the very limited views of WH in action but he doesn't look the part to me so I wouldn't lose any sleep over his going

Haven't seen enough of McCarthy to pass judgement other than he was very highly rated at Reading and was tipped for better things and had a few PL clubs swimming around him before his move to QPR

Me too Seth.

Plus we have people sitting in the McArthur singing about where they are. If I see that someone's left a cake out in the rain and that Selhurst Park has been renamed MacArthurs I really wouldn't be at all surprised.

My head's spinning.

Totally agree and everyone knows I do not rate Hennessy at all I am afraid. Never ever felt happy when he was between the sticks!

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

The interesting point of comparison is that WH and McCarthy have had very similar experiences the past 12 months; both highly rated younger keepers brought in presumably to displace aging, but high quality performers and both, for whatever reason, were not given the opportunity. Which of the two is better time will tell but I find it hard to believe that either would move on at this point to another reserve role. I think McCarthy may be bedded in slowly (although I also think he may have the shirt from the off) but if Speroni is the starter at Norwich, this is almost certainly his last season in the role.

McCarthy, with hindsight, made an awful decision last summer. He went to QPR expecting he'd play rather than Liverpool where he expected he wouldn't get opportunities but given Mignolet's form, he might well have ended up starting for Liverpool by now. If he turns out to be the player most believe he is then QPR will be culpable of really gross mismanagement. That club is a train wreck for careers.
