Funnily enough I went through a station once called "Portsmouth". Upon looking out the window I realised I was in Portsmouth. "Aha" I thought "that explains it".

I believe Dudley in the Midlands is the Biggest stand alone Town without a Railway Station. Although Oldham is not far behind !!!

I loved this exchange in Spaced:

Tim: What are you doing in Sheffield?
Mike: Fell asleep on the tube.
Tim: The tube doesn't go to Sheffield, Mike.
Mike: Yeah, I know. I um must have changed at King's Cross.

Anyone else got any train anecdotes or any favourite train based moments from films or TV?

Whyteleafe has two, three if you include Upper Warlingham.

I took the train from Southampton Central to Bitterne yesterday evening because I couldn't be bothered to wait for a bus or pay for a taxi.

Should have been £2.70, got it for free. Probably the highlight of my weekend.

I sat on a bloke's lap on a train once by mistake. He seemed quite annoyed especially as it took me a while to stand up.

I once dressed as a girl and 'pulled' a Palace fan on a train. He even took to social media in an attempt to reconnect with me.

Plunged Mild Nail is an anagram of Pudding Mill Lane which I believe explains the significance of the poster's observation.
