The friend of mine who used to work for kids company sent me this link. Went out on radio 4 last night and he's the guy called David being interviewed. Said it's a pretty balanced representation of the situation. Quite interesting and worth listening to if you have a spare half hour. Sounds like maybe they should have worked a little harder on ironing out the problems than wrapping it up.

What it boils down to is that it's very easy to spend other people's money. That goes for both charity and public sector, which is why they almost all end up in a financial mess.

You know full well what you're doing if you become insolvent within a week of securing £3m of funding. They did it to look after themselves and the rest, if the government are unable to reclaim it, will be pissed away on the winding up process.

£3m - 800k to pay the staff - Any other 'debts' = scraps.

It'll all go to creditors or just through the process itself, if not recovered. I'll bet they've got much more debts than you think, mostly unsecured ones.

And loads of kids are left in the s***.

Still I'm sure some will use this thread to use Camile as a bernstien figure because of her outspoken attitude, gender and choice of attire.

On s**t?

Alleged that they were given money for drink and drugs.

And they wasted the rest?

The state should not be giving money to charities or corporations, especially to perform the functions of state.

Tell that to Bromley council. Most of the childrens services have been outsourced.

Meanwhile, the council underspend by millions and use taxpayer money to buy a hotel in the Isle of Wight!

How lovely, Wonder if the rooms have a Seaview.

I and a number of people working for said Council are baffled by nicks errr assertion as clearly we'd like a staff discount on bookings. Where did you get this from Nick?

I heard it from one of Bromley Union's top blokes who said it was discussed at a council meeting.

LBB has set aside £40million to invest in commercial property. It is in their accounts. They thought about investing in a Travelodge on the Isle of Wight, but the documents for the one item on the agenda for that meeting now cannot be viewed. This £40million is presumably the council's reserves. There is no guarantee of a return on such reserves in commercial property, and the Priory would need a fraction of that money

Your issue is with the nature of the investment, not the quality. It may not make sense that councils aren't building and running their own flats and care homes etc. but I'd imagine it's more financially viable to lose money and get topped up on these services, while maintaining a segregated investment.

Care homes are some of the worst run services in the country but councils were doing things with their money you'd disapprove of, like lending it to banks in the form of repo trades long before these services were privatised.

Seems like it was mostly a doss house for the staff. If you were the right type of staff that is.

I saw a wicker armchair in the pub garden Saturday whose large back cushion was made out of Camilla's dress. Any more drunk I would've started arguing with it.

BBC Newsnight and BuzzFeed News have learned of a document, emailed to civil servants in the name of Alan Yentob, chair of the charity's trustees, on 2 June. It warned that a sudden closure of the charity would mean a "high risk of arson attacks on government buildings".

Embattled charity Kids Company spent thousands of pounds of public money helping migrants stay in Britain, it has been revealed.

Kids Company paid the London School of Economics £40,000 for a report that described it in glowing terms and made the case for more government funding within months of ministers raising the alarm about the charity.

Can't imagine how the Trustees can have been so unaware.
