I took my girl to a dance competition in Croydon a few months back, what made it worse is that I had to go back and collect her after it.

Every London council will use these buzz words to add a bit of colour to outsiders' perception of a place which would otherwise be viewed as a concrete sh1thole.

Imagine the computer game Sim City where you build as much as possible to increase your population and thus tax revenue, but in the 2015 edition you can add a few pop-up galleries, bars and shops.

It's all nonsense because this sort of cultural boost is organic. Do you think for a second any councillor in Peckham even expected it could be trendy? Now it is, they want to capitalise on the yuppies and build a Waitrose and posh shops.

Self serving cnuts basically.

there is a difference in Peckham , there is a concerted effort all round not to go down the homogenised route . foxtons have applied to open on rye lane and their is staunch opposition against it , lets hope it doesn't happen and Peckham keeps its new and old identity intact .

Opposition from the council or just the same stupid middle-class kids who smashed up the one in Brixton?

Can't you buy flats from anywhere else?

When people talk about Croydon, are they talking about the town centre or the Borough?

The place has many faults but it's nowhere near as bad as people make out. Has there ever been a town with a worse reputation than Croydon?

Beirut

Beirut has some stunning beaches.

What where the various militias of the various religious and racial groups hit each other over the head?

Also a very literal burying in the sand. Funny enough though prior to the civil war and chaos, Beruit and the Lebenon were very popular tourist spots.

living in crawley and having to travel through east croydon on a daily basis, would say croydon is much worse then crawley

I would have to disagree. Crawley has got to be much worse than Croydon.

As does Tunisia.

Croydon's beaches are crap.

Prefer "Carshalton Beeches".

Purley Beaches are nice

I always used to enjoy seeing cast members from "The Bill" strolling around Croydon. Alas, The Bill is no longer on TV. The Bill came off air around the same time as the demise of Croydon. Coincidence? I think not.

Yes, Sun Hill and the Jasmine Allen Estate.

Im all for the Box Park project at East Croydon, at least it deviates from yet another dull shopping center with a 5yr shelf life.

The top floor of Centrale has been reclaimed by the wild, the last time I Checked there was a pack of wolves picking off unsuspecting children & fat people looking for the food court that used to exist up there, its like something out of Jumanji.

I heard that shops from Whitgift Centre will have to relocate to Centrale so that Whitgift can be demolished.

strong opposition from locals young and old , they want to stop foxtons as it could be the thin end of the wedge . rye lane and the surrounding area is mostly local independent businesses , its against the homogenised gentrification of the area . the fear is once someone like foxtons move in rents rise and the independent businesses that give the place its appeal have to move on .

The Croydon I remember had the 'Railway' pub opposite East Croydon Station, the 'Dingwall Cafe' in Dingwall Road, 'Kings Cellars', 'Rui St George', 'Horn and Trumpet', 'Scamps' Disco, also 'Doctor Jims' ! Not forgetting Allders 'Bargain Basement' and 'Milletts'. And of course 'Snifters', 'Easy Street' and 'Kembers' !
And 'Sultans' for a late night kebab ! And in South Croydon 'The Refuge' !

Bob Cryer was in Prima Donnas once when I was in there. Jools from Eastenders always used to walk around Purley town centre as well. He used to wear the exact same get up as he did in Eastenders. Used to be hard to seperate Albert Square and Putley some days. Think that might have been the acid though.
