Call me cynical but it's just there to help them gauge what's trending and thus good for advertising in a world where no publicity is bad publicity.

A bad idea.

"I suspect it will mainly be used to express mild disapproval, or to express solidarity when someone posts about a negative event like a death or a loss." said a commentator.

Nonsense. Just another way of starting tit-for-tat confrontations between users. Leave it as it is - if you don't like something just say why you don't, or ignore it. And if all you have to offer someone who is bereaved is a facebook "dislike" tick, well !!??
