I don't mean to sound alarmist in any way but I don't really see this as a reality. Why would anyone want to have a lot of kids these days? Certainly if there are a lot of births I have to suspect that they are not from 'traditional English' couples. I really don't know how else to put it.

Like this shyster you mean?

He's probably told all his family/mates from "back home" what a cushty place this is as well as taking us for a ride himself!

There is much wrong with this bloke. Not least his ability to shag that munter at least 11 times

I am left wing, in fact very much so, but I have seen plenty of research that shows that it is not white, middle class people having children. A high proportion of ethnically English people comes from single-mothers and from amongst the poorer demographic. However, the UK population is very much only on the rise due to ethnic minorities having several children.
Middle class couples usually work too much to have many children - the average being below two children per couple so not reproducing, and certainly not adding to, the population. This is simply a statement of factual research - not a call to cull any particular minority group or to steralise anyone. I beleive this argument deserves to be put into some kind of context.

Also with reference to one of the posts above, I am left wing but have a strong alliegance to Britain and I don't like the suggestion that left-wing people must hate Britain. In fact, it was people like Thatcher that must have hated Britain, yes she liked the flag and the royal family, but she didn't do anything to help the majority of people. I think you will find it is generally the people that make up the state rather than the symbolism involved.

I guarantee those kids could, frankly, be anyone's. This is in Rochdale FFS, Rochdale - have you ever been 'up north'?!

I only ever venture north of the M25 if absolutely necessary.

Quote Hrolf The Ganger at 30 Oct 2015 3.21pm

The big problem is not with living longer. It is with birth rate. In Europe we have no population problem today and the world birthrate is dropping. Unfortunately the benefits of this will not be felt for a couple of hundred years when the world population is three or four times what it is now.

The aging population will have to be adjusted to and we must get used to that change into the future.

The solution to the aging problem is going back to the family model where the family generations live together more.

This society has a whole raft of people within it who take as much as possible for themselves and don't contribute to their wider family in anything near an adequate amount.

Old people are the responsibility of their adult children....Every situation is different of course but in a general sense there has been too much dumping onto the state rather than a family sorting its own problems out.

Unless someone physically can't care for themselves then it should be a family problem.....Some do this...Others have more excuses than you can shake a stick at...Some of them are reasonable but they all seem to involve the problem being someone else's duty.

Society needs to recognise this.....Workplaces need to recognise that family life also has requirements as well.

I hasten to add that I'm talking about a section of the left and not all of them.

Plenty of left wing voters wouldn't fit my description....I recognise that....Just being lazy.

I advocate non-treatment as oppose to just killing them.

Kind of like an improved refinement on Shipman then.....Neglect rather than actively degrade.

Stop making people, who should be at the end of their life, live longer.

Might help the NHS budget deficit too.

Stuk, you should start a new NHS think tank....You could call it the 'Shipman doctrine of medicine'.

I advocate non-treatment as oppose to just killing them.

We have to do the best for people within reason regardless of age, rather than non treatment because they take up all many resources or don't contribute enough. By this logic we wouldn't treat young babies and young children with significant ongoing physical and mental problems either. It's all about finding a balance and non-treatment isn't a balance, nor is it something you would advocate for yourself in that situation.

Nope, just don't artificially keep people alive who are at the end of their natural life.

Similar to the "do not resuscitate" option that doctors do discuss with older patients.

Optimistic as ever
