Quality player, underestimated throughout his career. Would take him in a heartbeat for about 7m, he is way better than Gayle, Campbell, Bamford, probably better than Wickham but obviously is older and shorter.

IF we offered Everton £7 Mill they would think we have taken leave of our senses !
He wasn't a bad "Free" transfer signing for them from Rangers !

We don't need squad players we need ones that can and will make an impact in the first team. We have plenty of attacking options that aren't good enough, no point adding another one.

Actually, up front I think we do. The reality is that Gayle and Campbell are not good enough for this level (even as squad players really), Bamford is a Chelsea player even if he's around for a few more months, and Chamakh is almost certainly in his last season here on top of which he's permanently injured until proven otherwise. All we have right now is Wickham in terms of a genuine Premier League quality forward and at the minute he is far from the finished article.

I would say forward is our biggest need right now and we need at least two of them, one preferably a genuine Premier League quality goalscorer who will start games and the second a genuine Premier League quality squad player who won't start every week but gives us a better option than Gayle or Campbell off the bench. Naismith is at least worth considering for the latter role as he's an obvious upgrade on Campbell or Gayle.

Not saying he's my ideal signing but he would be an upgrade, especially at the right price. If Norwich bought Gayle for 10 million (really?!) and we replaced him with Naismith for 1 million, we'd be having a laugh.

I agree we need a striker/strikers but first choice ones that will make an impact and score goals not make up the numbers. I'd rather keep the likes of Gayle and push him further down the pack than recruit more average ones and push Gayle et al up as that doesn't solve our obviously massive problem up front.

'The right price' = more crap bloating our squad.

Naismith is an upgrade on Campbell (who isn't?!) but not so obviously on Gayle who has scored crucial goals at this level for us.

If we were to offload Dwight as he hasn't made the grade, then Naismith would be an excellent squad player. He is a very intelligent player who gets in great positions.

See there's another of those clichés; let's actually buy someone who 'scores shedloads of goals'. Let's be honest, these cut-togethers are meaningless; you could make one of Gayle's goals and he'd look like a £20m player but it wouldn't make him one.

Useful for someone like Villa but not for us. We should be signing players who are definite starters not squad players. Campbell and Gayle are that on less money probably.

Good post, I agree. He also seems to be a really good guy, and I'd imagine an excellent person to have as part of our setup

I was relieved when I saw this guy was not playing for the toffees on Monday as I have seen him a few times and he is composed intelligent and finishes well - just what we need?

Then why wasn't he playing on Monday and why does this bloke who "finishes well" only have a 1 in 5 record? Sounds like more of what we don't need.

First, he has often featured on the flanks for Everton, and he was often brought on as a sub. As such, his record is not bad. Whether he is what we need, is another matter. Decent player though.

Ah, the 'Wickham/Sunderland excuse'; I should have guessed

Ah, responding like a complete tosser. I should have guessed.

It's not an excuse for Naismith, it is a fact. He has scored 1 in 7 playing largely on the flank, and despite not being a regular starter.

I'd be more than happy to have Naismith in the squad. If we can offload Gayle,Campbell and Bamford how about a cheeky loan bid for Ings?

Ings is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
