To be blunt it's a fcuking sh1t hole, makes tower hamlets look like Downtown Abbey on a summers day. I didn’t think it possible that a whole city (Kabul) could smell of sh1t, I was wrong. The only way moving to Afghanistan could improve family life was if your dad was a certain Mr Fritzel and the only time you saw a light bulb was when it was silhouetted by your dads cock. He was up to no good and got nicked for it. Boo hoo. As if an intelligence agent will admit which secret service he's from. And it would more than likely have been MI6 not 5. As the left always bleat on about don’t always believe what you hear or see in the media (especially where auntie Bee'b is involved). If he was MI6 he'd have been released a lot sooner - They tend to look after their assets fairly well, but it doesn't immediately mean he was up to no good, if he was out there prior to 9/11, its possible he could have been working with a number of charities and Non-Government organisations that were in Afghanistan. But yeah, I think it was highly suspicious he was out and about in Afghanistan. That said, 15 years seems a long time to hold someone without trial and without establishing what they were up to.

Call me a cynic but as far as I am concerned, the only reason he is not suing for compensation, is that in a UK court of law he may get asked tougher questions than he has so far had to answer. He will make enough money from a book and TV appearances.

What I don't understand is that if he was out there up to no good then 15-years in the slammer with the blessing of the UK is only going to make your anti-West 'sympathies' stronger and create more animosity against UK/US? Which means he could be even more of a threat than before. I guess that all of his comms will be tapped and he'll be followed everywhere by our security services. Keep your enemies closer and all that.

Found it interesting that in his interview with the BBC that I saw this morning he said that he'd "done nothing to deserve his treatment" and that he was sure "justice would be done." Now, being a betting man, I'm not rushing to lay the possibility that his idea of justice being done isn't exactly what the majority of the Beeb's viewers took it to be. (Cue: but he didn't get justice etc etc -type comments)
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

Has to be the reason he is not suing, If you were totally innocent and were locked up for 15 yrs suing would be the first thought on your mind. Only other explanation is that he has been given compensation already. He claims he was beaten and physically and mentally torchered he sure ate well judging by the size of him. I was expecting to see a really frail looking man.

He'd be a fool, because invariably the British Government has generally settled these matters out of court, rather than risking exposure of certain questionably legal activities to the courts.

It'd never make it to trial either, the UK would settle out of court (which its generally done so far). It can't really risk exposing intelligence activities to judiciary oversight and arbitration.

Right lets get some facts here shall we. He was witnessed by other Gitmo "residents" and intelligence services to have been fighting against the US and Uk troops with AlQaeda. Gaining enough evidence in an active war zone, for a court conviction in a day and age where Pistorious originally got off, is impossible. He was not cleared of anything, he was released as part of an agreement between the US and UK over the eventual closure of Guantanamo Bay. His home Country is Saudi Arabia (that other Bastion of Human Rights) he was only granted indefinate leave to remain in 97 as he took a British wife called Zin Siddique (hardley Ma Larkin herself if you dig a bit). Afghan in 2001 was a still a war zone and he took his family there. WHY ? One of the charities he was alledgedly working for is on the wolrd intelligence services blacklist as a supporter of terrorism. He isn't/wasn't innocent

He isn't/wasn't innocent The intelligence sources are questionable, revolving largely around the statements of a tortured individual. That said I'm inclined to agree that someone taking their family to Afghanistan in 2001 is highly suspect especially if it was post 9/11 when the US government clearly was gearing up to invade. I don't think he's innocent either, only that no one should be imprisoned without trial for 13 or so years or extradited against their will, simply on the basis of questionable interrogation and the self interested third party evidence (the Bounty Hunters who handed him over). Part of this maybe stems from the questionable actions of the Bush regime to avoid having to treat prisoners lawfully, that essentially you end up in a situation where its doubtful any one can be relied on to give a reasonable account.
