Player, manager, chairman, chief exec, pundit, broadcaster, dear Jimmy did the lot. Responsible for abolition of players maximum wage and 3 pts for a win.And he ran the line when the referee was unable to continue ! A great career in football and made an enormous contribution. RIP Jimmy and our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time.

I never did quite get why the "Jimmy Hill is a w@nker, w@nker" was so popular in the 1980's. Never sung it myself but if it had been released as a single it would have been pushing Sir Bob for the number one spot back in 1984.

I'm not sure his campaign to improve player's wages has ultimately helped the game.... look at the obscene wages of Rooney, Ronaldo etc and their agents fees - all of which take huge amounts of money out of the game and has led to Sky/BT and others controlling the game effectively and us fans treated like 2nd class citizens expected to turn up at any time it suits them to support our club.

Still... he was a bit of a legend... if only for that amazing chin.

If any of you want a good laugh watch "The Crying Game - Comic Strip Presents"... it is so funny with a great impression of him by Phil Cornwell... the clip below gives an idea...

For 30 years after the cap was lifted the players wages were reasonable and only the very, very best were wealthy. Shilton was the first £1,000 a week player in 1978/79.

It was Sky money that made things go bonkers. Can't blame Jimmy for that.

He let the genie out of the bottle Kerms.

£1000 per week in the 70's was huuuge.... I started work in 1972 for less than £1000 per annum mate!

Bosman, Agents and TV coverage has just further egged the pudding he wrote the recipe for.

Possibly. But again it was only after Sky that even crap players were wealthy enough to never have to work again aged 25-30. Back in the 60's, 70's and 80's ex-players had to find other work once retired to survive financially. The good ones must wish they had been born twenty years later.

Ultimately all he did was introduce the same 'fairness' that applied in other jobs, where supply and demand set wage basis.

Basic rules of capitalism applied.

I think it was the case that he was a bit outspoken as a pundit so was a bit of a pantomime villain for a while . Scottish fans hated him and sung that because he was so biased to England and with our short comings in qualifying for tournaments back in the 70 and 80s the scots liked to rub it in .
I think it was the 74 world cup when he was a pundit I remember him wearing a tartan jacket to state that he wasn't so anti scots .
did he not also write the lyrics to the arsenal song " good old arsenal " ?

big part of my football growing up , I`m going to miss the fella

interviewer " iggy , do you think you influenced anybody?"
iggy pop " I think I wiped out the 60`S "

So, the rest of the match was played with no ref & three linesmen?

As bigger influence as Bosman.

Not sure if it was actually for the best but RIP.

And a slightly better Bond

RIP Jimmy
