A large number of us will remember getting windswept, drenched, and snow sodden at our much loved end, and managing to stay upbeat and warm as we sang and motioned to such classics as "Knees up Muvva Brown" and "The Hokey Cokey"!

It is therefore sad that I feel the need to share some recent news as below.......

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world today, it is worth reflecting on the recent death of a real legend, that almost went unnoticed yesterday.

Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Cokey" died peacefully in his sleep, at the age of 93.

Although close family were aware that his days were sadly numbered, the most traumatic time for them was assisting him into the coffin.

They put his left leg in, and that's when the trouble started......

One of my favourite gags. I am glad to see it being preserved for posterity.

I do remember the Holmesdale when it was an uncovered terrace, but unfortunately cannot recall the Hokey cokey being sung.

However I do have the abiding memory of when, as a young child, I attended a Catholic convent (yes boys went there under nine) run only by nuns. On what was called Reverend Mother's Day - a day of relatively relaxed rules it what was a severe regime - the pupils had to sing the school anthem Vivat in eternum in praise of our earthly benefactor, but as a much anticipated reward the nuns would line up after and do the Hokey Cokey - one of my earliest introductions to Surrealism.

Recent death? Not quite - 1996. A good joke though.
