If it was a lady sports person flirting with a man reporter using the same words would there have been the same reaction ? Personally I think it is a total and hysterical over-reaction.

If the reporter had hit back with a "Put Down" or a humourous retort then nothing would have been said and Gayle wouldn't have received this ridiculous fine.But of course he would still have made his remarks, however they wouldn't have been considered "Inappropriate" and worthy of sanction ! He was just flirting, he never meant any offence nor did he mean to belittle her. They say there are not enough "Characters" in sport !

She was fit and he told her, is that against the law now as well ? How the f*** are you supposedto talk to women thses days if a simple chat up line is seen as sexist FFS. The way some people on here go on the human race would cease to be.

I've automatically started substituting 'PC' for 'basic human manners' whenever I see it now. Works just as well.

Bit excessive but you're right in the sense that people just want to upset the status quo, where holding a door open is seen as patronising for example. That's the sort of attitude that can only have a negative impact on society.

Interesting how Susanna Reid is renowned as a flirt for her behaviour with the likes of Beckham and whatever american movie star has a film to sell, yet that's seen as far more acceptable than Chris Gayle saying what amounted to "you've got nice eyes, fancy a drink?". I appreciate it may not be the best time to say it, but if you do a live TV interview, you don't get prepared comments. In no way has he disparaged her ability as a cricket pundit or belittled her. It's no wonder most people seem to meet their partners on dating sites these days - it seems it's the only place you can approach a woman without being deemed to be out of order.

I was amused by the huge outrage this has provoked as Chris Gayle was deemed to be unprofessional in not treating his interviewer like a serious journalist but methinks there are double standards at work here as these girls are employed as eye candy and not serious journalists otherwise we would see the occasional fat ugly interviewer instead of the dolly birds used in Australia and in the recent masters series in USA. Have you seen Lisa Sthalekar or Mel Jones? Chris Gayle is a cricketer with a playboy lifestyle so why this should surprise anyone I don't know and he's not the first to flirt with her on the boundary, he was just far more blatant about it. What she should of done is put him in his place, on air. 10 thousand Aussie dollar fine is way OTT and I wouldn't mind betting they still sign him up for the BBL next year too. He should have got MOTM too for his 41 off 15 balls, although Tremain did bowl bloody well so not begrudging him, but I think they wanted to avoid her having to interview him again.

A bit feeble of Gayle but we see women fawning all over men all the time on TV and we are supposed to see this as some kind of female empowerment. What crap. It is women behaving badly because they can. Men are now subject to identity politics, or more accurately in this case, gender politics by which men can't be men any more because the PC brigade say so. As with all equality,one cannot favour one group because they are perceived as victims. More often than not this is just self interest disguised as equal rights.
