This would infer that a player with 6 months or less can automatically talk any without requiring permission from their parent club. This is not my understanding at all but I will seek to clarify this.My understanding is that the "6 month rule" pertains to foreign clubs only.As I say, I will seek to find out as my understanding could be totally awry.

Because if you have a list of all the players in this division who are in this position it can stimulate a lively debate on who we would like to go for; and as far as those at this club, which do you think are likely to be looking elsewhere. That is, one of the reasons why anyone logs on to this site.

It seems to me that, if you have no intention of renewing a player's contract (that's expiring in June), then you'd have to be a complete arse to object to him speaking to other clubs.

Yes I understand this. Agents get involved in negotiations so the player doesn't need to talk to another club and if so,technically the player isn't negotiating with another club and going behind his club's back if permission hasn't been granted etc etc etc, in this scenario.Of course agents can still negotiate with other club even if permission has been granted before involving the player. There is of course the signing of a pre-contract and rules pertaining to this etc.Agents of course can get involved at any time during the contract (Not necessarily within 6 months of completion) to move a player on with the player not involved in any talks with a club.It is all very complex !

It doesn't really matter whether you intend to offer the player a new contract or not. It's a free labour market and the player would be a fool not to shop around. How else can he find out his worth? If he gets lots of contract offers from other clubs better than the one his present club has offered him then he can either leave or have a useful bargaining tool. And his present club would expect him to do that. I don't think we'd have any problem with those out of contract looking around; that's the way it works. In all honesty the situation is very straightforward. A player who knows his contract is ending will have his agent put out feelers. That's what agents are for. At some point, he'll have offers on the table from both his present and other clubs and he'll make a decision which contract to sign. Simple. Even the player who wants to stay where he is would be stupid not to follow this protocol; why would anyone not find out what they were worth on the open market?
