Now that someone I care about has died I will take the chance to say this: one of the most contemptable, disgusting facets of this website is the pathetic pleasure some of you seem to derive from creating posts with celebrity names as their titles and the word "dead" in the text portion. It seems that you can't get the post out quickly enough, such is your desire for a small amount of recognition at a time of others' pain and misfortune. This time we even had two posts out at the same time and another five minutes later- you couldn't even wait long enough to check if there was a duplicate thread. It's an insensitive thing to do and not a pleasant way to find out someone you care about has died. I'm not saying it can't be talked about here but jumping on your laptop the instant you find out is NOT the way to do it. Major Tom signing off. Edited by Jamesrichards8 (11 Jan 2016 7.26am) Its a HoL tradition. In fact its a phenomena of most forums 'general talk' equivalent is to post a 'dead' notice. Most topics here, either start with a news story (ideally) and discussion, so a dead threat generally kicks off a discussion about the individual. In truth, no one here really knows the guy as a personal friend or family member either (I'd guess). But its not disrespectful or insulting, necessarily, although it can be if, say, you were s**t or Michael Jackson.

1) Him sitting at the front of the stage, legs dangling over, playing his Stylophone. I remember thinking that he either has a s***-ton of those things in a safe somewhere, or that one has its own former special forces security team. 2) My (then, now ex) wife thinking how cool it was that he covered a Nirvana song. You know...The Man Who Sold the World. 3) An lady behind us commenting to her friend that Bowie has "still got it" and how she could "throw her panties at the wall and they'd stick".

Couple of things to say about Mr Jones/Bowie. I wasn't that into him as a lad but the brother of a girl I went out while at Croydon College was mad on him and really turned me on to his music. We went to see him play at Wembley Arena in '83 on the Serious Moonlight tour which was amazing. Also, as a South London boy Bowie was reputed to like Palace and this pic popped up on facebook today:

I grew up in Bromley, and David Bowie's music was the soundtrack to my teen years. Got to see him live at Earls Court in '77 and then in 2003 on the Reality Tour. I always thought he was immortal. His music is.

I like some of his songs but i'm not a massive fan,he discovered Luther Vandross and took him round the world with him on tour and Luther also sang background vocals on Bowie's young americans album. RIP.

Still quite numb about this. An absolute hero of mine. Popped down to the mural down the road from my flat at lunchtime and stood there whilst Space Oddity was on the radio. Emotional. Not really one who goes in for mourning on celebrity deaths but this one has really got me.
