I don't know what they are complaining about. Al Jolson got nominated loads of times.

Charlotte Rampling who has an unarguably excellent half century cv in cinema sums it up for me. She was nominated for an award after her role in "45 Years" and thoroughly deserved it in my view. If she was black she would have quite possibly have got a best actress nomination too in the same part. It's about quality not colour or race.

Does anyone else find it hilarious when actors complain about the 'injustices' in their lives?

Here we have a group of pampered individuals who have everything, live in a bubble and often have complete disdain for the rest of society.

If I was a great Hollywood actor I wouldn't be wailing like bitch at every available opportunity, I would try and f*** impressionable muff at every available opportunity, race one of my many vintage cars or become a high roller on the poker circuit.

You mean you don't anyway?

When I think about actors, I'm thinking Birdman.
That film was about actors and in apparent irony, was totally up it's own arse.

So judging by the table there is no bias whatsoever.

I prefer to use statistics rather than opinions to judge.

Quite significant stats as well. As opposed to the ones some moron used highlight there have been 4 white MOBO winners

This story really sums it up.

About 12% of the American population is Black. So why the f*** do some of them think that they should automatically selected for awards?
Last time I looked you had to deserve it.

This is from the same school of thought that says that there should be more Black football managers even though, the amount of black players is hugely disproportionate to the few percent of black people in the population.
Rather than celebrate this, some want to just keep complaining.

only just seen this...pretty much spot on.

If we are playing the numbers game then I suppose - and i have no idea how much it actually is - then you both agree I assume that 12% of lead and supporting roles should be played by those of a darker hue?

Most films have a mixed cast to appeal to the widest possible audience. That is business. The leading roles will go to appropriate actors who are often white because the population is overwhelmingly white. If anything I'd say black are over represented in films and on TV relative to their numbers.

Somebody has to play the thieves, rapists and drug dealers....

I think a big issue that's at play here, is race in America, which is very different than race say in the UK. I'm curious as to why no black people were nominated, but not necessarily surprised. However, given the history of race in the US, I'm not surprised that a number of groups have jumped on this, possibly without worrying about statistics and selection lists etc.

Politics, and Law to an extent, in the US is very much driven by media, and race is a big issue. With a election coming up a lot of political groups will be throwing their issues into the hat, maybe rather than their policy.

No gay nominees either so does that make them racist and homophobic?

Are you sure?

Unless you know something that hasn't been made public?

Surely one of the actresses drinks from the furry cup?

Closest one is Cate Blanchett but she's married and only said as much while promoting a film where she played a lesbian.

ever see her husand? definitely one to make you wonder if he's just there as a stand-in.

I haven't, but if she's happy to tell the media she's done a bit of lezzing (even if it's for promotion) I don't think she needs a prop husband.

They're changing the voting rights which, as I suggested, would be better than making Chris Rock feel bad about earning a crust.

I read the same story in the Guardian last week and I don't blame her for being miffed to say the least.
