How racially skewed are the Oscars?

So judging by the table there is no bias whatsoever.

I prefer to use statistics rather than opinions to judge.

Quite significant stats as well. As opposed to the ones some moron used highlight there have been 4 white MOBO winners

Those are really interesting numbers.
So in terms of winners, black actors look to be very successful, but why has nothing been said about Hispanic actors, who seem horribly under represented? Is it just because they don't have the same pressure groups?

They're more concerned with Donald Trump and his plan to deport them.

Optimistic as ever

Never underestimate the political power and ability of the Black Rights movement in the US. Where as other groups have been generally poor to middling at protecting their interests, the Black Civil Rights groups have a long history of political activism and power.

A consequence of this is a slick machine that connects rights groups and activists across the country in a way that most other minority or impoverished groups could only dream off.

Police shoot an unarmed black youth, and you can be absolutely sure a civil rights group or activist group will pay attention, where as if you're a poor white guy killed by cops, you've got to rely on the system and luck, in a system that's stacked in favour of wealth and state. Where as there are a number of Black rights advocates, trusts and funds... Its not fair, but its not fair because the US is inherently unfair in terms of law and order.

But that's the way of the world, especially in the US, rights aren't always observed or protected, you have to fight for them - And the black community of the US has a very necessary history of protecting and promoting their rights.

That's what playing with John Terry does to a team mate.

Being green, furry and living in a bin can't help either

It's OK, Big Momma's House 3 will clear up at next year's awards.

As will 'white chicks two', '50 shades of black the sequel' and long overdue 'dear white people'.

The only one of the three worth watching, not a great film, but sometimes underappreciated by people who judge it entirely on the basis of the title rather than the content.

I appreciate that, but with tensions being high for some time now, across the board, i just feel with some movies, not all, they don't really help themselves. I mean, let's say if instead of white chicks, they came out with black chicks - it would cause a storm - right or wrong.

It's like Tropic Thunder and the reaction by some groups of the robert downy jnr role.

I just feel, inherently there is tension created, just to stir it up.

Imagine if one day, we all woke up and went about our lives as human being, on earth, what happened in the past was world history, we learn from all history and move on, if a disagreement occurs, it's not accused on the basis of colour and we slowly eradicate talk of racism, generations would forget about the word and it may slowly be a non issue, where people got what they deserved in life through hard work and opportunities were open to all? Wishful thinking maybe.

No gay nominees either so does that make them racist and homophobic?

Are you sure?

Unless you know something that hasn't been made public?

Surely one of the actresses drinks from the furry cup?

Closest one is Cate Blanchett but she's married and only said as much while promoting a film where she played a lesbian.

ever see her husand? definitely one to make you wonder if he's just there as a stand-in.

I haven't, but if she's happy to tell the media she's done a bit of lezzing (even if it's for promotion) I don't think she needs a prop husband.

They're changing the voting rights which, as I suggested, would be better than making Chris Rock feel bad about earning a crust.

the guy outkicked his coverage by a mile.

but what voting rights are being changed?

Actually that's one of the themes of Dear White People, those for whom racism is just an issue by which they protest and shout, irrespective of the problem - or focus entirely on negative aspects (the nahnahnah I can't hear you).

Problem is certain groups only can exist if they can create a furore over issues, and create a problem that might not be a problem over a racial factor. A good example of this can be seen in racism and policing. There is definitely an ussue here, but its not as simple as racist cops persecuting black people - There is also a serious problem with crime in black areas (notably poor black areas). For certain racial campaigners, the interest is in the symptoms, not the problems - They'll happily pursue expensive legal cases against the state, but aren't interested in promoting the problems in the community of poverty and jobs (because if they did resolve the issues of race, crime and poverty - they'd be redundant).

Consequently, community action groups aimed at employment and poverty in black area are massively underfunded, and its these that ultimately hold the key to resolving the conflict between the apparatus of state and race.

A part of this lies in fund raising and donations - White upper class Americans want to see their money used to fight cause issues like Racism, rather than less popular invisible causes like school and welfare programs in communities.
