My dad worked as a docker in the 1960's and 70's and he used to bring home some really strange packets of cigarettes. The Russian ones used to have pictures of things the state were proud of, astronauts, rockets etc.

I remember back in c. 1985, trying be cool like Paul Weller (during his Fench musings during the Style Council years) and buying a pack of Gitanes. Think I smoked two before nearly throwing up. They were truly awful.

[quote=Riv;2943mista266] I remember back in c. 1985, trying be cool like Paul Weller (during his Fench musings during the Style Council years) and buying a pack of Gitanes. Think I smoked two before nearly throwing up. They were truly awful. Unmistakeable aroma - like a decomposing body smouldering on a damp bonfire (I imagine anyway)

When i was at school, there was a letter going round in which the content was made up almost entirely of tobacco brands. It ended; 'You will be Erinmore from me. Yours sincerely, Peter Stuyvesant'
