Thanks to everyone who signed the petition. It will pass 500,000 signatures within the next few hours and is on track to become the most signed petition to date. Not bad for a few mums (including my wife) who joined a Facebook Group when expecting December 2013 babies of whom little Faye was one. By my rough calculation there would be approximately 7 million children to be brought into the catch up programme. As ever it will be a cost benefit analysis I guess

According this BBC report from December 2012, the daily cost of a paediatric care unit bed was in the region of £2,000 per day! Presumably that is just the bed and staff costs, so 2-3 weeks at that cost then add medication, physiotherapy, drugs etc. and it soon racks up a pretty large bill - even without allowing for the ongoing life costs for those children who are (tragically) seriously affected by this illness - prosthetic limbs, social care payments, housing costs etc. Surely vaccination is the better option.

Signed. I caught this when I was a baby (1962). I was told it was touch and go for quite a while and I ended up having 2 lumbar punctures (thankfully I don't remember having these). For years afterwards my parents, via advice given by the doctor, insisted that I take a tonic called Minadex (I'm guessing advice may have changed over the years).
