Kids will study these events one day in history classes.

Cameron called a referendum innpart to call out those who were calling for us to leave. I do not doubt he expected to win the vote to remain.

The campaign was at best nebulous from both sides, simply because no one really knew what would happen if we left the EU as no one had done it before.

The minute the leave vote came in Cameron scuttled off to count his riches and May who voted to remain was left trying to make a silk purse from a does ear.

What is on offer now is neither fish nor fowl. It is not leaving but not staying.

Her task was doomed to fail from day one as this was a political football wrapped thick in idealogy.

I hear Posh Victorian Boy Jacob Rees Mogg is likely to attempt a vote of no confidence (possibly as soon as tonight,) when I expect calls for Boris to take over. Then who knows?

Boris ran from it once and he will run again. It's a poisoned chalice and he knows it. He's a lazy populist, but not as stupid as he seems. He won't touch it with a barge pole.

I can see why you say that but I am not so sure. It would appeal to his vanity to be PM and he simply has to go with a no deal exit blaming everyone else. A large proportion of the leave (at any cost) supporters would lap it up.

I am.

I always wondered what being a slave is like, now I will find out.

Feels like something from Rome, the UK master becoming the slave of the EU and paying for the privilege.

Just the bus fares and luncheon vouchers to sort out....

I also am delighted that the word Vassal has returned to use.

Just needed to add that the whole Brexit debacle is an embarrassment to the UK. Voters got the chance to vote between remain (the known quantity) and leave, which was not defined in any way, shape, or form. It's a blank canvas that whoever the PM is can fulfill in any of hundreds of ways.

As the results of of the Brexit referendum where known, analysts were saying that the EU would have trouble putting together a united front, while the UK had a singular one. But the exact opposite has been proved true, the other 27 members of the EU have united to back a single position, while the UK's position can be described as "uncertain" at best, and personally I would describe as a s***storm.

The referendum should never have happened in the form it did. It was inviting people to vote emotively on a binary proposition, with no clear outcome defined (on the leave side at least). I'm not saying the people shouldn't be consulted (I believe they should), but it was handled so cack-handedly. Frankly, I think we deserve what we get, whatever that might be.

But this was a junior-school approach to determining the economic (and to some degree political) future of what is still (for now) one of the most influential and prominent countries in the world. And that is unforgivable.

To propose something like this with no alternative plan in place is mind boggling. The truth is there was no alternative proposition in place before people went to the polls. And that is beyond idiocy IMO.

I find this impossible to disagree with - anyone who still feels this referendum was a good idea only does so because they are clinging to the idea that they won something.

Ha ha. You really are embarrassing yourself these days.

So 'Gammon' is not racist? And ageist.

Please don't remove head from arse. You are the comedy relief.

People who use the so-called insult "gammon" tend to be brainless, unimaginative c*nts who've run out of valid arguments, especially the intellectually bankrupt pea-brains on Twitter.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
