That's easily answered. Why would you go to great lengths and dramatic change if there's no benefit ?

All brexiters say is it won't be as bad as people make out, but never explain how we'll be better off. Then why bother?

The benefit is that we're out of the EU and all it entails. That the rules we live under originate in the UK and nowhere else. That's always been the aim.

Why do so many people find this so difficult to understand?

But I don't agree with all this Paris and Frankfurt balls,I listened
to the wireless the other day that the city of London is being swamped with people looking for business leases.
We will still be the financial services leader.

There was an article in the FT last week on this - plus the tech sector demand for London office space is also strong.

(No I don't support a 2nd vote)

The only knowledge that I've gathered throughout all of this is that it's now confirmed beyond doubt how vindictive and intransigent the EU really is (although I'd long suspected it).

Well it would have to be a binding vote on the government and the government would have to put measures in place to carry out the result, if you want another vote.

preferably Parliament because Parliament is the final arbiter. But I'm not sure that is even possible.

Huh?

jealous

adjective

feeling resentment against someone because of that person's rivalry, success, or advantages (often followed by of):
He was jealous of his rich brother.

feeling resentment because of another's success, advantage, etc. (often followed by of):
He was jealous of his brother's wealth.

Jealousy is when you're worried someone's trying to take what you have and value....ie a jealous god is concerned to lose believers to false idols.

Envy is when you want what someone else has.....which was the context you should have been using.

And herein lies an interesting argument.

The EU is a bloody great big restrictive practice. Outlawed by competition law for businesses so that Pepsi and Coca-Cola can't fix the price of fizzy pop and clean up but for some reason that's quite beyond me, entirely acceptable in international trade.

The idea is a simple one. In a capitalist economy, the big guys eat the little guys. So the little guys get together to protect their common interests.

The UK generates only 3% of global GDP and is shrinking. With such little economic clout an economy will struggle when trading with a larger player.

And so we have in our negotiations with the EU, which is appreciably bigger.

And yet STILL I read people saying that the Germans need us to buy their BMWs! Actually the Germans have also seen that the growth markets, that the Brexit politicians dangle in front of our noses like some mystical holy grail, are elsewhere. That's why they're busy selling BMWs into China and India where year after year they sell significantly more cars whilst the number that we buy falls.

The EU might well be vindictive and intransigent but those are exactly the same attributes they deploy when negotiating on our behalf.

Let's get smaller, that'll help.

I would argue that there are many better reasons for leaving the EU than their intransigence. Their intransigence is a strength. As long as you're inside it.

It's all very well being the world's 6th largest economy (soon to be 7th as India surges ahead) but we're still rather small.

UK 3%
EU about 12-13% (excl UK)
India 3% and growing like the clappers and don't they just know it.
China 15%
US 24%

I have no faith in our ability to reach favourable trade deals with China or India after this debacle.

Libya, Vietnam, Ivory Coast & Bangladesh are the fastest growing economies but how much stuff can you sell a country with an economy the size of Libya that's so small I can't even work out how to calculate its insignificant % of global GDP?

Have we left yet.....are we there yet?

If we fall into a coma and wake up after a year....what's the odds in us still being in this weird mixed conclave of neo liberal corporate socialists.

Nowhere did I say that their intransigence was a reason for voting to leave. I said that their demonstration of it served only to reinforce my belief that my vote was the correct one.
