Well it seems you were right about the EU Japan trade deal

"The EU and Japan recently struck a trade deal which lowers tariffs on both parties' car exports to zero.

James Atwood, deputy editor of Autocar magazine, said this could be a big factor behind Honda's decision.

"It allows Honda to produce their cars in Japan where most of their plants are and then ship them to the EU without having to pay the import tariffs they have been, which does reduce one of the reasons for needing a plant in the UK," he told BBC News. "

Very boring how all of these collapsing companies place significant blame on Brexit really.

It seems like every week there is another big business going terminal. They are all using the excuse that Brexit has been a part of tipping them over the edge. Simply a convenient excuse, following the mass of other companies that are in trouble. I mean, surely it couldn't have affected every one of these companies.

Yeah it's all a huge coincidence it's happening now just weeks before brexit and not more randomly spread out

And all their CEOs are lying...

Yeah....

Would you like to tell us, as brexit is only 5 weeks away, which international companies are queueing up to invest in the UK to profit from the post-brexit boom?

Go on.....

Can you hear tumbleweed?

If you actually read the article you would see that Honda are thinking or pulling out of manufacturing in the UK in two years time not just weeks before Brexit

Without brexit they wouldn't need to pull out at all, would they?

Who knows

But pulling out can't be done in an instant, it will take a programme lasting many months. I suspect such a big manufacturing company also has to liaise with the Government, it probably has subsidies and preferential arrangements. And there will be a requirement to formally consult on redundancies

I do, however, think it likely a decision was either accelerated or precipitated by the Brexit issue being piled on top of other global and EU related issues. In the same way as for FlyBMI, Jaguar Landrover, Nissan, Airbus, HMV, House of Fraser and all the rest. Many of these were not in the best of positions before the Brexit vote followed by the prolonged uncertainty. Who knows if any would have turned themselves around had they not been affected by them. All I know if there is a hell of a lot right now and I would expect more to come.

Thinking on it, why do you think they announced it now? It is obvious it will get linked to Brexit. Maybe burying bad news but it feels more like making a point.

The global economy has many challenges at the moment

And our Brexit challenge is also infecting the EU.

All I know is that Brexit is surely not helping our businesses that are already having a very difficult time.

.err Maple, what happened 2 years ago that would make them contemplate leaving the UK.

BTW, talking cars, I saw F1 practice started today, I wonder how many Brit teams will be left in a couple of years? Shame as it is one of the few areas of technology where the UK is still at the leading edge.

Mostly due to bloated cost centres like HR!
