You realise that people don't just visit EU countries for holiday purposes right?

Of course but those visiting on business can afford the extra few pence that they may have to pay.

I used to visit Europe several times a year and as a businessman I probably paid an extra twenty pounds a year whilst roaming charges were in place

I don't care about roaming charges, visa costs, FX costs and queues at immigration. If that is the price we have to pay to run our own country so be it.

Speaking of visa costs I just got back from the Russian Visa Processing Centre in London they are charging me £100 for a tourist visa for a 7 day holiday in Moscow.

Well guess what it's their country and they have every right to charge what they like. You should see their visa application, some example questions:

How much money do you earn?

List your bank accounts?

What countries have you visited in the last 10 years?

and my personal favourite, in addition to your current passport please list your 3 previous passports details to include No., date issued and dated expired.

I have no problem with any of this if I don't like it other destinations are available.

All I ask is that this country has the same right of self determination.

But of course you care

If you were asked to pay for something or not pay for something you would choose the latter, you wouldn't say you didn't care. If your energy or tax bill shot up would you be unhappy or not care?

BTW UK charges Alot more for visas so you're lucky

Electric and bills DO go up AND WE get nothing back. If I have to pay a bit more short term I know why and what I'm getting I return. Which is independence and no more freedom of movement which has already helped wage growth.

I just love the way people say we shall be running our own country. Wait and see. Other people's rules will not only carry on affecting us, we shall have less say in the setting of those rules. This is the big fallacy of the whole discussion. I guarantee you our international companies will either bend the knee or get hit by fine after fine. We are no longer in a position to consider ourselves independent. You may want to consider the discussion of a similar nature between Preobrazhensky and Stalin. The rest of the world will come and get you.

I can see why you didn't enter sales Maple.

Your post amounts to surrender to cartel like behaviour. You forget the precarious position of the EU itself. If they wish to continue with aggressive and obstructive positions against the UK all they will do is increase their already deserved unpopularity and create an aggressive competitor rather than a trading partner.

I don't think your 'threat' view will be what happens.

Funnily enough I am dual qualified, my other qualification being marketing

I just say it as it is. It isn't the EU, we are going to be biting the pillow mostly for the Americans. We will lose our back-up
