The grass roots are a large majority Euroskeptic....as you would expect....Just as the Labour grass roots are large majority pro EU.

We shall see about that.

I think many, many conservatives are uneasy with the current direction, especially the whip removal from the likes of Churchill's grandson, the former chancellor, and Kenneth Clarke, to name but a few.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

Thank god they are gone and we certainly shall.

These remoaners should have left a long time ago. The government needs to be united in its task ahead.

From a strategic point of view, with May being a three year long dancing dud, I can see where the 'my way or the high way' approach of Boris comes in. How else could he have played it? Granted there has been a reaction, especially from within his own party, and so the solution lies at the ballet box sometime soon I would think.

A negative from the government is that they're making themselves look like a mess right now. A positive, that Jeremy Corbyn is unpopular to an almost unbelievable level. It may well still end up being a toss up though. Unpredictable times.

The ballet box. Good name for how we vote for who goes into that Nutcracker Suite that is Westminster.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

"Anti-Brexit MP Anna Soubry, who leads the Independent Group for Change, said she had been due to speak at the March for Change rally in London but told organisers she was too frightened to do so, after consulting with police. "

And it's all starting, this will nothing compares to what will happen if we don't leave.

Do you believe in Parliamentary democracy as a way to avoid the "rule of the mob" and/or the "tyranny of the majority" ?

Do you believe in free speech?

Do you believe in the rule of law?

Do you believe that your opinion matters more than others?

I think most will agree that the sooner that everyone can see that the current Tory Party is in the process of morphing into a blue rinsed version of the Brexit Party the better, so the quicker the many decent "one nation" Tories detach themselves the better.

As long as our parliamentary representatives vote in accordance with their party manifesto

Interesting article by David Starkey I have previously compared the current situation in parliament to the era of Cromwell and it would appear that David Starkey is also drawing parallels.

I think there is still a legal way for Boris to avoid asking for an extension some of the papers have speculated that he will resign as PM.

I think this is how the idea would work:

Boris hangs on for as long as possible until the deadline for him to ask for an extension. At this point he resigns as PM but not as party leader.

The Tories decline to nominate a new PM.

The opposition cry foul and Corbyn privately asks her Maj to make him PM. Her Maj says yes but you have to prove to me that you can form a government first.

Corbyn has no choice but to call for a vote of confidence in him as PM. The so called loyal Tory rebels and other parties will then have to decide if they want to support a Corbyn led government.

If he loses Parliament is still in deadlock and without a PM. At this point having defeated the government on what Boris called a vote of no confidence and having failed to win a vote of confidence the logical action is a GE. This would then be after Oct 31.

If the opposition fail to call a GE then Parliament would limp along for another couple of weeks until the deadline has passed. During this time of course the opposition would be trying to find ways to get an extension.

If Boris succeeds then post Oct 31 he asks the Queen to be PM again and probably asks parliament for a GE.

It's a theory and no doubt the opposition will have a few tricks up their sleeve so no guarantee. It does mean that Boris doesn't have to break the law.
