A ham and cheese sandwich coming into Belfast from GB (think Marks and Spencer etc) would need "two health certificates".

But problem escalates if lorry carrying the sandwiches also carrying 10 other types of sandwiches - then all need health certificates.

Deal or no deaL, Brexit will be a bureaucratic nightmare.

Because we don't have farmers who can provide ham or cheese?

Or Britain could simply decide not to bother with any of that - just say that it will then don't. A bit like how every government and the EU really works. It's not like Ireland is going to actually do anything except moan. We've our own pressing issues: the North is not one of them.
There's no 'break a deal, face the wheel': once out of the EU the rules are unenforceable, they are to many who are in the EU at the moment. Apple Tax anyone? Think they paid 81,000 rather than 13 billion - just a slight discrepancy there. Oh well, only Ireland, who cares.

Should it all go pear-shaped and we all know Johnson's record, the government will simply shift the blame.

When the government was challenged on the issue in parliament last year, it claimed it was “not responsible for the supply of food and drink to the population in an emergency”. That is up to “the industry”.

Its’ the same reckless, uncaring attitude that has helped kill 50,000 people in the pandemic.

Ironic really that on another thread you Slate HMG for getting expensive PPE which has saved lives.
Some are never satisfied!
When you say 'helped kill' did they make people go out socialising, not distance or not wash hands?

These problems with paperwork and deliveries are what are called teething problems.
Many posters on here of both political persuasions have or had businesses. They all had teething problems. In time it will be easier and not as problematic. Patience is required as Rome wasnt and all that.

Personally I would go for the ham sandwich with 10 health certificates rather than 2.

And probably get food poisoning.

EU beef with full provenance.......last seen breaking down in the 3.20 at Epsom

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Looks like there is something going on over meat currently. The last beef wars went well for Ireland. Only held it back for 40 years or so.

To be honest I think there is a case to be made for us being willing to continue with various protections for the Irish agriculutual produce. We are their biggest market and to put it bluntly, it is not in our short, mid or long term interests to see them impovorished. Their politicians, with notable exceptions, are gobs***es of the highest order and like nothing more than prancing around pretending to be Europeans as opposed to just the West Brits they are but much like the white trash cousins you have to invite to family weddings, we do share enough DNA to mean they need special consideration.

Chuck 'em a bone (no pun intended) on issues around meat and so on is my attitude.

Agreed I have no problem with special arrangements for Irish farmers. Brexit is about the UK taking back our independence not trying to destroy our neighbours.

Perhaps the EU would be wise to reciprocate.
