The way would be to have proper passport checks in Britain. Every time I fly over there are no checks at all - which I find laughable. And I am talking about a lot of times travelling between Britain and Ireland. No disrespect to NI but I don't think that is most immigrants' preferred destination. That being the case, no real need for a hard border in Ireland. Just actually have checks in Britain - every other country I go to does - including rigorous ones in Ireland on the way back.
