It just wasn't "that simple" though was it? There were many strands which, when knitted together, meant we ended up with the kind of deal we got and an 80 majority Tory government of the type we have.

This really isn't though the time to get into another long argument over Brexit. As I hinted in my earlier post I suspect that the negotiations will have to be put on the back burner whilst we all deal with this crisis. It will certainly prove to all, I hope anyway, that acting together delivers better results than trying to stand alone. Maybe that lesson will soften the British approach whenever they resume because we are going to see a very changed world at the end of all this.

Indeed. Free movement within the EU certainly won’t be as easy.

Yep. I refer to my 7pm post on Coronavirus thread. They appear to be able to close their borders when it suits

Or maybe it will let the EU off the hook. I suspect that the national leaders now realise that we are not going to back down so they need an excuse to tell the EU negotiating team to be more flexible. I think this is the perfect excuse for that.

Do you think all Tory governments are exactly the same then?

I don't. I have voted for many who I believed pursued sensible policies based on sound financial prudence matched with social responsibility. Not this one.

Not at all I dont no.
I still though prefer their policies as they follow a similar principle of hard work +effort = reward.

Every sensible government rewards enterprise and not laziness.

Some though also protect the poorest, the disadvantaged and the vulnerable from circumstances that are genuinely beyond their control. Others just say they do.

It must be a bit of a shock to all the Eurosceptics, who constantly complained that Brussels had taken control over everything, to see that national governments actually retain total control and can, and do, act when the need arises.

So we were ahead of the curve.
What happened to all working together?

The only shock is that Merkel has suddenly realised that you can close borders, having let the world and his wife in over the last few years. Are you really suggesting that any of the Schengen signatories could have closed their borders at any time, without Brussels approval? Total b***cks
