Why should we have to allow for people to think the future is brighter in the EU? We shouldn't have to, we voted to leave.

People will think whatever they damn please. Or don't you want to be in a democracy?

The point is, voting to leave isn't that simple. It's not as if anyone has a mandate for going for, at random: the single market, the customs union, no immigration, free movement of labour, or anything else. People have just said no to the EU, they haven't said yes to anything.

It may well be that when the deal is looked at it is (as seems likely) worse than the situation we are in now.

Certainly, for those whose views I've seen in favour of leave, that 'bad' view could look like keeping single market and customs union with the price of free labour movement, just no place at the EU table when decisions are taken. So the EU wouldn't have to give a stuff about the UK view. We'd still be giving the EU a bunch of cash. Would you want a chance to turn that down?

The argument that we have '...no place at the EU table when decisions are taken....' is interesting.

As far as I am concerned the EU is run by a German/French axis, whom appoint unelected commissioners to do their bidding.

The lack of democracy, openness and fairness in the EU was one of the main reasons I voted Leave.

As far as I am aware, no one other than the SNP is actually campaigning to not exit the EU now.

But it is legitimate to question when the country is ready to begin negotiations for what that relationship will look like, as well as what that relationship should look like.

There was no mandate for those decisions given by the referendum vote.

We will leave the EU. But when and how should be subject to parliament. You know - that sovereign parliament that the majority of Brexiters wanted to restore?

Agreed. We want the best deal and what's right for the country. Rushing things will not enable that to happen. SNP will come onboard too once access to the single market is assured.

I stand to be corrected, but I thought the LibDems were proposing reversing the exit decision too?

Quote
Liberal Democrats believe that the British people should have their say on the final Brexit deal in a referendum. Voting for a departure is not the same as voting for a destination. British people have a right to have their say on whether the deal they are offered is the right one for them, their families, their communities and our country.

I think there are some in the party who would like to reverse or seek a second referendum but party policy is to accept Brexit just look for the softest possible

Who gives a s*** if they do. They're a non-entity in the UK.

SNP can get back in their box.

They have lost two referendums and moan about both as a 'travesty of democracy'.

I had lunch at Simpsons in Cornhill today and one of my fellow diners was Nigel Farage.

What a wonderful Christmas!

The bubble & squeak and braised onions at Simpsons are superb.
