All very interesting Matthew but there is nothing in that article that say's Michael Sheen is a type of leftie that you find so abhorrent, is there?

You are just trying to smear him to make you and your self-righteous politics feel better about yourselves.

Bit sad really, isn't it?

It was an observation on the type, Michael.

The voice of the privileged left telling people how to vote in the EU Refrendum and the US Elections went down well, didn't it?

The majority didn't listen to the likes of Jay Z, Bob Geldof or Ewen McGregor tells them what to do. Why would it be any different with Michael Sheen?

It just alienates voters and leaves them polarised from the majority.

If you think I am self righteous, I don't care. That is just a smear of your own, in an attempt to pick a fight.

Let's keep hoping they don't.

They won't for a decade or so.

An interesting idea, but ukip have been elected with a 13 seat majority in the commons and would like to do away with parliamentary democracy to really give one final push to send our economy over the edge....and then the 'popular' press will blame 'remoaners' and immigrants for raising our national debt to 2trillion by 2020 (in 2010 it was 1 trillion).

Its 1.67 trillions now projected to be 1.95 trillions in 2020 not including Mrs Mays court cases and the 50 billion charge and her trousers....

Not good for Sturgeon - support for independence is falling:

So what cards does she hold in Brexit negotiations?

None - they will become irrelevant post Brexit as independence would mean being out of the EU and out of the UK.

1.96billion - Truly 'eye-watering' figures as a chancellor would say.
What baffles me is why we are not talking about this sh*tstorm of an an economy we are now sailing into with some of the press not even mentioning it. Britain's debt is unprecendented - the last time we were forced to borrow from the IMF (1976) we borrowed 4billion. And the OBR have forecast that growth in 2019/2020 will be the same as if we hadnt voted brexit which is optimistic at best....and we have to find another half a billion for training of new customs and immigration officials.....not peanuts when you have a care system that is broken and will need top be funded by a 6% rise in council tax....oh and inflation is rising and the pound has plummeted versus the dollar so our debt just got a whole load more expensive.
If we have to press the article 50 button then press it but lets not delude ourselves that we what was voted for on June 23rd was not a busted flush for an eceonomy

Or closer to £1.8 trillion, depending on the source. As for breaking the £2 trillion mark, it'll almost certainly hit that well before 2020.
Yes, Brexit has added slightly to the problem, but in reality it's nothing more than a headline making side-show, a distraction, from the real problems we have faced for many years now ie the policy of continually borrowing to kick-start the economy.

It hasn't worked because it doesn't work. It never will.

Totally agree but how much of the deficit could also be brought down substantially if Treasury truly tackled those companies and individuals who continue to enjoy tax avoidance and evasion schemes? HMRC is due to lose a further 21,000 staff in 'cost efficiency savings' by 2021.

Yup, Brexit hasn't even started yet but already I doubt "out" would win any referendum held today and it doesn't take much to see we are (to quote the old Hank Snow song) heading at 90mph down a dead end street...

Tux has a point..much of our problem is deep rooted but we are certainly compounding it big time IMHO...populism has a habit in ending historically in....yes, you got it...failure,empty promises and shattered dreams.

I disagree and believe you are only reading into this what you want, to suit your politics.

We will be at the head of the queue to get a trade deal out of the Americans and progress, according to today's press reports, has been made with countries such as South Korea.

This is a complex process but it will, in my opinion, be better to have freshly negotiated treaties with countries outside of Europe rather than being shackled to the economically and socially failing EU in the long term.

I don't also see you criticising Sturgeon's or Corbyn's 'populism', just that of the (implied rather than express by your posts) right. Why is that?

Interesting....

Are you saying that the EU are adopting an Animal Farm approach to Freedom of Movement... ie all men/animals are equal, but some more equal than others?

The mantra from the EU to us is that there is no compromise on the so called 4 freedoms.....

The 'four freedoms' of the European Union are the freedom of movement of goods, people, services and capital over borders. These key principles lie at the heart of the EU and underpin the single market, originally known as the common market.

TYpical that the French would block a serious threat to their workers when it suits them.

H you are ridiculous freedom of movement is a condition of membership of the EU.

Turkey is not a member of the EU the mantra you give applies to EU member states.
