Oh great! Just like the privatised rail services then! That went well! Profitable for shareholders, perhaps (though doubtful) crap service for customers almost certainly.

The EU would never, ever give away rights to coroporations, would they?

Oh, wait:

Remember that when you are at your next surburban dinner party, tut tutting about the great unwashed taking you out of the EU.

Are you old enough to remember how crap British Rail was?

I'm probably older than you! British rail was as good as any nationalised service was; the privatised shambles costs more, delivers less and cannot make the UK rail service fit for 21st century without massive tax-payer subsidies, how crap is that?

Here's a little news item for those who think governments spend money wisely.

British rail was s**t before privatisation but the government were accountable for it, now its s**t and expensive after privatisation, and some remote corporate shareholder boards are accountable to the government.

Fortunately, private companies are so much better... no wait they're not. Its not what you spend, but what you get for what you spend.

Boris or Ken or any other government - they are all very bad at projects and spending money.

The difference is that private companies that get it wrong like that tend to go bankrupt and the efficient companies prosper. Government agencies just go on repeating the same mistakes endlessly with no consequences. (You now of course will say that the failing banks got bailed out. Yes they did, a questionable action by the government. Although they probably did need to safeguard ordinary peoples' money in those institutions.)

True, but then private companies also don't deliver the same kind of accountability that government agencies have to, as they're accountable to the electorate as well as law.

As a rule I think Business tends to be more efficiently organised that government agencies - but that their employees (until recently) are generally worse off in terms of their jobs, and usually they're the ones who are accountable for business failures, or the desire to raise the share value (not all redundancy is about 'cutting losses').

I do think that a percentage of the civil service is basically an outreach charity program for about 20-25% of its employees - who'd never cope outside of the civil service (having 'serious issues' that no private employer would take a risk on).

Government agencies are accountable to the public - every four to five years, as the head of the department can be voted out of office.

You don't get that for a CEO...

Yeah Private Companies tend to be more efficient - but in terms of Employees, traditionally they get a better deal (decent wage, good pension, 'job for life', good training, promotion prospects etc even at the bottom end as an AO).

You'd don't get that working in Tesco.

The trust seems to think otherwise..

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.
