Their policy is stated as a "jobs first Brexit". That is defined as aiming for whatever deal results in the best outcome for British workers. That means protecting rights and enhancing them. That means keeping all options open in negotiations and using collaborative democratic process to determine what the British people want (this has been done btw and suggests Labour's attitude is in line with the public - google Brexit Assembly). If it means a Norway model then so be it. if it means staying in the Customs union then so be it. If it's following the teachings of Ayatolah Rees-Mogg then so be it.

The point is that it sets out the main goal of Brexit and then works collaboratively within the UK and with the EU to establish the end point that best achieves that goal, without ruling out options in advance before they have been assessed. They can then look at all the options and assess which would have the most beneficial impact on jobs and living standards for the JAMs.

The Tory policy is far more vague and seems to involve putting the cart before the horse on trade.

‘Jobs First Brexit’ is meaningless spin, designed to try and fool people into thinking that Labour has a Brexit policy (it doesn’t, it is as split on Brexit as the Tories but in a different way) and it’s myth is perpetuated by those whom ish to believe that Labour has a Brexit Policy.

Labour is trying to differentiate itself from the Tories on Brexit but is failing miserably because Jezza is ideologically wedded to Brexit.

Furthermore, you are insinuating that the Tories are hell bent on a ‘scorched earth’ Brexit policy which is far from the truth. If you had access to what is going on at government with regards overseas trade, it touches my world, you would have seen that over the past two years the government has employed some very talented people to promote and position British post Brexit.

Finally, staying in the Customs Union is not Brexit. Labour will rule it out accordingly, partly in recognition of Jezza’s desire for Brexit and partly because any sort of soft Brexit will alienate the working class voters from their overly middle class Labour leadership.

I'm British. Not sure where you thought I was from.

I guess that's about as close to a criticism of May's handling of the situation we'll get from you. When would you like this dream ticket to come in? 2019? I would rather see something done about it now. I would support getting rid of May now if JRM/Boris was my preferred option to run the country. Surely we need the people with the Brexit vision you favour in charge not simply waiting in the wings?

I doubt it will change the EU's tactics all that much. They probably expect May to be gone any day as it is.

It’s interesting that you are trying to provoke me, by making out I am May supporter.

It’s quite cute, however misguided that tactic may be.

Nonsense from Kinnock - “stop Brexit and save the NHS”:

[Link]

How exactly are these polarised subjects linked, Neil?

'The truth is that we can either take the increasingly plain risks and costs of leaving the EU or have the stability, growth and revenues vital for crucial public services like the NHS and social care.'

Kinnock quite correct IMO.

Very good points on Labour all of which I agree with.

Where we diverge is the line "staying in the customs union is not brexit". That is your opinion. It is one shared by a lot of people but not all the people who voted leave.

Brexiteers rightly identify their win in the referendum to support their mandate to leave the EU. However, given the importance of that in a democracy I can give you instances of people who voted leave for wholly different reasons. One friend wholly favoured the trade union but hated the post Maastricht federalisation. Another was in step with I suspect the majority of leavers where the only issue to him was free movement and the greater control of immigration and our borders. Neither voted to leave the customs union and,i suspect,if you had avote today there would be only a tiny support for this especially if free movement was erradicated.

Brexit is something of a moveable feast.

I do not think anyone would have voted leave,if it was the same model we believed it was in the 70s...A Common Market.

Because the NHS has done so well with us in the EU.

I expect you are already compiling a list of stuff to blame Brexit for before we have even left.
