I think he has a case for unfair dismissal. A previous investigation concluded the alleged event (nearly 40 years ago) didn't actually happen and the girl's mother withdrew her accusations to the police about him. He was completely exonerated. If the BBC wanted to get rid of him it would have safer/cheaper to retire him - as Rob says he's 73 FFS. He would have accepted it and gone quietly. Now they've potentially opened a can of worms with this action. Millions of pounds of our money will probably be wasted on a court case and compo. The BBC once again playing fast and loose with our money! If he said something different to both, he could be in breach of contract. But if I was him, I'd be talking to my lawyer today about at least leveraging a favourable severance package. I doubt the BBC want another case that brings up Savile etc.

That will fix it. I don't think Savile has anything to do with that, as that's South Yorkshire Police. Savile was more West Yorkshire police and the Met's failure. Interestingly the West Yorkshire police weren't too scared to question Savile about the Yorkshire Ripper Murders as a 'person of interest', but they were about allegations of raping children.
