Here's some stats that should put your mind at ease. (Suprised on the spider figures. Aussie spiders are pussies)

Snakes: With 41 recorded deaths between 1980 and 2009, snake deaths in Australia average out at less than two per year.
Spiders: Nobody in Australia has died from a spider bite since 1979 after the successful introduction of antivenom for all native species.
Sharks*: Accounted for 25 deaths between 2000 and (March) 2012 in Australia, about 2 a year.
Crocodiles: Historically, crocodiles account for less than one death per year here in Australia, although that is increasing slightly as the crocodile population rises following the ban on crocodile hunting in 1971.
Blue Ringed Octopus: Just 3 recorded deaths in the last century.
Stonefish: One unconfirmed death by stonefish in 1915.
Cone Snails: I could find no recorded deaths from cone snails in Australia whatsoever.
Killer Jellyfish: Jellyfish account for (at time of writing) 66 deaths since records began in 1883. The box jellyfish was responsible for 64 deaths, and the Irukandji the other two. It sounds a lot, but still less than one death per year, more like just half a death per year.
* Updated 5.4.12. with latest shark death figures.

Australia’s worst killers!

Here in Australia, about 20 people a year die from horse riding accidents.
Around 10 people per year in Australia die from European Honey Bee stings after going into anaphylactic shock.
And around 300 people a year drown.

From being stung by jellyfish, bitten by sharks or chased by crocodiles.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

See the stats mate, 64 deaths since 1883.

I'm not sure I would recommend copulating with one but the danger levels are exaggerated.

I never truly believe stats from that long ago to be accurate, and Australia is f***ing massive.

How did the box jellyfish death recorder bloke get to hear about old Bruce, who lived in the arse end of nowhere, who's family chucked him on the barbie when they found out he was no longer bonzer?

Sorry, make it 65 deaths

I remered seeing something recently (might've been a Youtube '47 facts that'll make you fuk your old mum boots' sorta turn out) that suggested the Aussie deadly animals aren't actually responsible for that many deaths. The link above was the first one I spotted but I'm not gonna swear by it.

They probably are overstated, I just don't believe stats along the lines of "since 1883" to be 100%. There must've been the odd hangover day where the recorder bloke went to s***.

You forgot stingrays though, and we all know they've got at least 1.

If you are backpacking there's a nice place top of Western Australia called Wolf Creek that''s worth a look. Also, Belango State Forest near Sydney is great. But, best of all, scuba diving on the barrier reef with those laid back Aussie skippers that think head counts are for girls is a trip you won't forget.

I saw a programme about the box jelly fish a few years ago.

it is'one of the most dangerous creatures around.

thing is when your out swimming you can't see it coming which makes it a bit off a nighmare.

I've not encountered any box jellies yet or god forbid irukandjis, encountered stingray, assasin bugs, huge f***ing hornets, even more huge f***ing golden orb weaver spiders!

Not seen any snakes which is a massive shame as I love snakes!

watch out for spiders - red backs - can kill
brown snake - kill
stone fish, undercooked bbq meat and skin cancer
