the comment about man utd adding more to the football brand than Leicester is such a load of bollocks , football is a fluent moving thing , teams go up and down . wigan won the cup a few years ago and have added to the football brand and they are now in the 3 rd division .

only thing that matters is # of eyeballs on the tv. they want chinese eyeballs, american, etc. nobody in those places cares about ghent.

i don't know if you heard it - if you have sirius they've replayed it on the follow on show if you want to hear it.

I would suspect that the far east betting syndicates have more effect on this than US tv figures......

The PL isn't threatened by this at all: The clubs know which side their bread is buttered on. It's the Champions League (and UEFA) which is under threat. They big clubs will simply opt out of (and thus destroy) traditional European competition in favour of their own "Champions League" for which they're guaranteed to qualify every year. This means they keep their PL income but guarantee to increase their European income, thereby even further maximising revenues. Do they care that Leicester, Palace, etc. are kept out? Not one bit. European football as we know it can either find a different way forward without them or cease to exist for all they care as they'll be making more money from the new competition and thus won't miss it at all.

Football is a joke and yes, but for Palace I'd be long gone. And I think this WILL happen. Not soon, perhaps, but the sort of people who run the game now and going to go where the money is, whether the authorities like it or not. And they will simply tell the FA/UEFA that if they get in the way of their European League then they'll pull out of the domestic leagues so they have them over a barrel. PL on weekends, Barcelona or Real, etc. midweeks...all guaranteed. You tell me the state of the underside of Malcolm Glazer's desk when he thinks about that...

I have just been reading more about this and the funniest thing is that there are 9 English members of the ECA and 2 of them are Newcastle and villa ,who might not be in the prem any way .

on the basis of the invite only on past performances in the European cup I imagine Nottingham forest , steau Bucharest and the earlier mentioned villa will be readying themselves for a trip to Barcelona

Let the so called "big clubs" float away on their own flatulence. There are plenty of smaller local ones who can fill the void and will give the average punter a much better match day experience anyway. Could be a new era for football. English clubs can't even hack it in the current Champions League competition so inevitably, they will win nothing.

Happy for them to f**k off with all the plastics for a circle jerk league. The championship was always a more fun league as a fan. Games at regular times, lower prices, rarely ever a Sunday game and with much less coverage, it made being a fan a commitment.

Less TV, makes for more games at reasonable times, and more commitment to the fans who go to games, as opposed to Sky paymasters.

Let them have their league and all the best players for silly money on silly wages.

I'd rather watch proper football, with proper clubs and actual competition. This whole league really is for 13 clubs or so, about not being relegated.

Now look at the championship, that's a proper league. Where a club can finish 17th one season, and then win the play offs the following season, because its about who can buy the best players in the world, but who can find the best players.

Without promotion to the w***er league, we could actually be free of 'money ball' for life.

Very true. I can honestly say the last game I really had that feeling of passion and rivalry was the home game against Charlton in our promotion season. The premier league just isn't the same, not even close. Full of money grabbers, divers and ex pros w***ing on about how great it is.
