So you confront something by banning it?

Thank you for sharing yourself with us. I have read more of your comments. We are all different and special and need others (and ourselves)to share with others. What is banned goes underground - becoming more acceptable to participants?). what remains exposed can be judged and (hopefully?) guidance given regarding what is acceptable.

Agree.

Yep.
As I said, change gays for blacks/muslims... is it still ok?

I truth though, its hard to get through any decent gangster rap album without reference to wasting nigga's and pigs. There's people that are into this skank music.

Banning it just gives it power. What it needs is people within the music scene responding with new music.

Back from footie.

I don't mind some dude saying he hates the gays, I do mind it being broadcast in the media... there is a world of difference between a private conversation and songs being marketed and released to make money where the theme of the aforementioned song is killing gays.
I will never be comfortable with that, and would like it stopped/censored/banned.

I don't mind that level of censorship. I don't want Fast food rockers or Elton John banned, I am NOT comfortable with that level of censorship. I don't believe you should allow hate speech because in my experience, those he say such nasty things are beyond discussing things with in a adult manner.

Time to move forward together.

You make a good point, and rap music is s***e these days, I still feel singing about killing gays is worse than singing about killing fellow gangstas... suppose it comes down to there being a element of choice in being a gangsta, where as you have no choice if you're gay.
I'd ban music that advocates killing cops.

I disagree... in the 80's it was far worse. There was one mixed race couple on my estate... and it was hell growing up there.

Always happy to educate.

Homosexuality is illegal in Jamaica in 2016.

I travel a lot for various reasons throughout the Caribbean, The States, Canada among other places but the last time I went to Jamaica was for a holiday.

You say that you have been to Jamaice 3 times, were you not a tourist? Or were you forced to go?

I suspect you went as a tourist on the 3 occassions you went, maybe to visit family?

You're missing the point of this thread... the thread is discussing people singing about killing gay people.

There is no freedom of speech... because society is littered with bellends that think saying gays should be shot and burned is ok, and when the authorities say don't say s*** like that, they then scream censorship

I think you are missing the point of the thread. It is not about people singing about killing gay people, it is about a club being told to ban music because the police believe that it is associated with crime. There is only an incidental reference to the lyrical content of some of the songs in the article. One line.

There is a song called "boom boom burn"
It's about shooting and burning gay people.

Human nature - the old catch all term for something unacceptable, being somehow justified. Its interesting that we always seem to use the term human nature to justify or rationalise the unacceptable.

Its a rhetoric nonsense the idea of human nature, because it is essentially a variable. Some people are racist / sexist / homophobes, but its a very long way from being ingrained in human nature - For that it must be present as the norm, in all humans.

Nature isn't a flexible concept that defines some people, its something defined by the lack of variation - Instinctual or occurring on the biological level.
