Perhaps a delicate subject in view of associations, but the summoning of Sport Direct's CEO to sit before the parliamentary business committee does raise the question of sponsorship reputational risk. Initially reluctant to give evidence to the committee, it seems as if Ashley will attend heeding the suggestion that he might be charged with contempt if he refused to attend a second time.

The issue concerns practices at the company's Shirebrook, Derbyshire HQ, where, according to a report in The Guardian in 2015,many workers received less than the minimum wage.

He should tell them to sod off.

These parliamentary committees are the biggest load of hypocrisy going. MPs sitting around acting like judge and jury while pretending they have any morals themselves.

Optimistic as ever

He shouldn't be facing MPs, if Sports Direct are deliberately skirting around paying the minimum wage, it should be criminal charges.

Companies that pay less than minimum wage should be face penalties up to nationalisation without compensation (provided they are breaking the law in doing so, or trying to circumvent the law).

Same with companies that knowingly employ illegal workers, or people on benefits.

Exactly.... the committees are usually chaired by Keith Vaz FFS.

Then again, someone like that probably is better placed to understand someone like Ashley. I was always expecting Vaz to be named chairman of Portsmouth FC, or turn out to be Peter Risdale in black face.
